Your Role:

We are looking for a hands-on, safety-driven Equipment Technician/Engineer to join our Organosilanes (OS) Group and take ownership of tool reliability, lab safety, and facilities support systems in our Tempe, AZ electronics R&D lab. This fast-paced, hands-on role will thrive in a changing R&D setting while working cooperatively with others toward common goals. The candidate will spend the bulk of the workday on-site in a laboratory or cleanroom environment, resolving issues independently with outside resources available as needed, while championing a strong safety culture across the group. Specific responsibilities include:

Safety

- Uphold a zero lost-time and zero serious-accident/regulatory-incident standard across all activities.
- Conduct hazard assessments for tools, processes, and lab activities, and champion the EMD Electronics hazard assessment process.
- Partner with the team to ensure all OS applications and work adhere to the EMD Electronics Hazards Assessment Process.
- Ensure Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures are consistently applied for all tool and equipment repairs where appropriate.
- Verify and approve contractor Work Plans, ensuring full compliance with the EMD Electronics Safety Work Permit (SWP) process.
- Safely operate and maintain commercial chemical delivery systems for toxic and reactive chemicals (liquid and gas) common to the semiconductor industry, such as EMD Electronics ChemGuard & GasGuard delivery systems.

Tool Operation, Maintenance & Support

- Independently operate, repair, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on commercial PECVD and FCVD systems and associated equipment to ensure normal operation and maximum uptime. This includes operating deposition systems via software screens, manually loading/unloading 300mm Si wafers in a cleanroom environment, and performing full wet cleans of process chambers (PECVD and UV Cure) as required.
- Maintain a well-stocked inventory of critical laboratory and tool parts that could otherwise cause extended downtime. This includes ancillary equipment that supports the tools, such as vacuum pumps, abatement systems, etc.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure safe, timely completion of critical repairs.

Lab Organization & Inventory

- Collaborate with the broader team on any proposed lab modifications, building consensus before implementing changes to shared infrastructure.

Life Safety and Facilities Systems

- Work with the Lab Manager and EMD PLC (programmable logic controller) experts to maintain and modify the laboratory life safety system as required.
- Maintain a well-stocked inventory of critical life safety equipment (e.g., gas sensor replacement components) that could otherwise cause extended downtime.

Communication & Documentation

- Communicate tool and equipment status updates verbally and through daily passdowns.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and part inventories.
- Work on multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing issues and tasks according to the latest R&D needs.
- Manage conflict and critical situations professionally, keeping the broader team aligned and effective.

Physical Attributes:

- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., work in awkward positions as necessary, and walk, stand, or sit for up to 8 hours.
- Work in a cleanroom-type laboratory environment for up to 8 hours, handling 300mm Si wafers.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

- 2+ years of experience with commercial deposition or etching platforms
- 2+ years working in a cleanroom environment
- High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

- 2+ years of experience maintaining a 200mm or 300mm commercial deposition or etch platform
- Working knowledge of processing wafers through the system, including the vacuum system.
- 2+ years of experience working with Swagelok, VCR, and common vacuum fittings (KF, ISO, etc.).
- 2+ years of experience using Microsoft software, such as Excel and Word.
- Proficient troubleshooting skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
- Associates Degree in Electronics or military-equivalent experience.
- Experience handling toxic and reactive chemicals and gases common in the semiconductor industry.
- Experience operating commercial chemical delivery systems for toxic and reactive chemicals (liquid and gas), such as EMD Electronics ChemGuard & GasGuard delivery systems.
- Experience with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO).
- Respirator Certification.

Pay Range for this position: $100,000-$110,000 per year.

The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
