General Description and Classification Standards
The Project Coordinator – 3rd Shift is responsible for assisting leadership in the planning, coordination, and oversight of overnight airside maintenance, construction, and operational projects within the Department of Aviation Grounds Maintenance. This position serves as the on-site lead for 3rd-shift operations and assumes the authority and responsibilities of the Project Manager in the Project Manager's absence.
This is an experienced, skilled, or technical-level position capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the role with limited guidance or review. The Project Coordinator is expected to exercise sound independent judgment, lead field personnel, coordinate with contractors, and ensure that all overnight project activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable city or federal standards and regulations.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Project Manager Sr. and Project Manager or designated leadership. In the Project Manager's absence, the Project Coordinator – 3rd Shift assumes full lead authority over shift operations and personnel.
Supervision Provided
Provides direct oversight, guidance, and instruction to contractors and temporary staff assigned to the 3rd shift. May assist in orienting or training new facility coordinators.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Facilities Maintenance, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in maintenance, construction, engineering, surveying, or facilities coordination
Preferred Education & Experience
- 3+ years as a Facilities Coordinator, Maintenance Lead, or equivalent role with demonstrated project coordination experience.
- Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role on construction or maintenance projects preferred.
- Experience working in an aviation, airport, or similar 24-hour operational environment is highly desirable.
Licensures and Certifications
- Valid State-Issued Driver’s License required.
- Airport Movement Area (AMA) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Additional certifications in OSHA safety, construction management, or related disciplines are a plus.
Essential Capabilities and Work Environment
Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are necessary to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with the job include outdoor airfield environments, active construction sites, and occupied airport facilities.
- Project Coordinator will be required to work any of three (3) shifts or a combination thereof based on the project oversight requirements.
- This position's primary assignment is 3rd shift and may include weekends and holidays.
- May be required to work in varying environmental conditions, including outdoor settings, extreme temperatures, and active construction zones.
- Must be available for emergency response calls such as winter operations and aircraft incidents during off-duty hours as required by operational needs.
- Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, and inspect work areas for extended periods; lift and carry materials and equipment; and operate hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment.
Lifting Requirements
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
