If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you. Mack Trucks is seeking a Product Mechanical Engineering Intern to join the Medium Duty Engineering team in Salem, Virginia.

Mack Medium Duty Engineering is part of Vehicle Engineering within Volvo Group Trucks Engineering, a global product development organization.
Vehicle Engineering supports our customers’ success by leading the development of Volvo Trucks North America and Mack vehicles. As product engineers, we develop attractive and profitable heavy- and medium-duty truck solutions. We work as one development team, supporting one another to deliver the approved product plan and proactively recommending technologies that address future customer needs.
What You Will Be Doing
As an intern with the Mack Medium Duty Engineering team, you will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to real vehicle projects. You will gain exposure to multiple vehicle systems and collaborate with team members across a range of engineering disciplines.
Your assignments may include developing new designs, resolving technical or quality issues, and optimizing existing designs. By contributing to new product development, product maintenance, quality improvement, and other engineering activities, you will build practical experience and see how engineering solutions progress from concept to implementation.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Support the development, coordination, and execution of complex mechanical engineering tasks while meeting quality and schedule expectations.
- Apply engineering principles to projects from concept development through implementation.
- Help the team meet project cost targets, schedules, and objectives.
- Investigate root causes and develop solutions for product quality issues.
- Learn and apply simulation tools relevant to your area of focus.
- Perform simulation analyses under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
Who You Are
You are a mechanical engineering student who is prepared to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment while gaining experience across multiple areas of engineering. As a valued member of the Mack Medium Duty Engineering team, you will work directly with engineers in the department. Volvo Group values collaboration and lifelong learning, and our goal is to support your development while giving you meaningful experience in a professional manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program in mechanical engineering or a related field, with at least 30 semester credit hours completed.
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
- Spring interns may work up to 30 hours per week

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
