Automation Systems Group

The Automation Systems Group is responsible for the design, construction and support of cutting-edge data center automation and control infrastructure. The department collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology and Management to ensure the system continues to fulfill Vantage customer requirements. Automation Systems works closely with partner contractors to come up with the best design and helps manage these partners to success by providing accurate requirements, goals, and timelines. In addition to design and construction, we are also responsible for the technical requirements of the Operations department involving troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing mission critical control systems throughout all Vantage locations.

Position Overview

This role will be based at our data center campus in Port Washington, WI, in accordance with our hybrid work schedule of three days in the office and two days flexible.

Vantage is seeking a Senior Automation Systems Engineer, Delivery, North America who is a senior individual contributor responsible for the technical delivery, integration, testing, and turnover of automation systems for new data center capacity and major expansions. The engineer converts design intent and sequences into tested, supportable controls solutions while protecting standardization, cybersecurity, data integrity, and operational readiness.

Essential Job Functions

- Review drawings, sequences of operation, points lists, network architectures, submittals, and control narratives for completeness and alignment to Vantage standards.
- Develop, review, test, and validate SCADA, BMS, EPMS, PLC, HMI, alarming, historian, and integration configurations.
- Provide technical direction to system integrators and contractors and hold delivery partners accountable for quality, documentation, and closure.
- Lead software bench tests, factory witness tests, point-to-point validation, integrated systems testing, commissioning support, and defect resolution.
- Control code, graphics, UDT, naming, alarming, and version-management practices through approved repositories and release processes.
- Diagnose complex integration and controls issues and coordinate resolution across design, construction, commissioning, OT, cybersecurity, telemetry, and operations.
- Ensure turnover packages include source code, backups, licenses, asset and tag data, test evidence, training, and support documentation.
- Capture lessons learned and improve reusable libraries, standards, test scripts, and delivery methods.
- Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Typically 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls integration, mission-critical facilities, or data center environments.
- Advanced experience with SCADA, BMS, and industrial PLC platforms, including development and support of control systems; experience with Ignition and Rockwell Automation platforms is strongly preferred.
- Experience developing control logic, graphics, data models, alarms, integrations, and operator interfaces from design through commissioning and operational handoff.
- Experience commissioning and supporting automation systems through Integrated Systems Testing (IST), turnover, and operations, ensuring systems are tested, documented, supportable, and aligned with established standards.
- Knowledge of industrial networking, Windows and server environments, SQL databases, cybersecurity controls, version control, change management, and software release processes in mission-critical environments.
- Experience identifying and resolving integration issues, reducing delivery defects, and supporting high-quality execution across multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with data center automation technologies and protocols, including EPMS, MQTT, OPC UA, BACnet, Modbus, Git, and automated testing methodologies preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop reusable engineering assets, templates, standards, and best practices that improve consistency, scalability, and delivery speed across projects.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, commissioning, operations, and vendor teams to deliver reliable automation solutions from design through production.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout North America up to approximately 25%, with travel varying based on project, commissioning, and operational requirements.
