Laborer, Blasting

Purpose

The Blasting Laborer position is responsible for safely performing manual labor and assisting with drilling and blasting operations under the direction of the Blaster. Worksites are located throughout Kentucky and Indiana.

Job Responsibilities

- Assist with layout and preparation of blast patterns and shot areas.

- Assist with unloading and handling explosives. Assist with magazine inventory.

- Assist with loading explosives into drill holes under the direction of the Blaster.

- Assist with stemming drill holes and wiring shots under the direction of the Blaster.

- Assist with the placement, movement, and removal of blasting mats.

- Assist with site communication, blast-area security, traffic control, and other duties necessary to maintain a safe blasting operation.

- Load and unload tools, equipment, and construction materials.

- May operate a variety of equipment dependent upon skill set. Equipment includes, but is not limited to skid steers, loaders and backhoes.

- Perform other construction and blasting-related duties as assigned.

- Participates in cross training activities.

- Obtain and maintain ATF Employee Possessor clearance.

Education and Experience

- Previous construction or blasting experience preferred but not required. Must be willing to learn and receive hands-on training in blasting operations

- Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies preferred.

- Willing to work long hours if necessary.

Skills and Specifications

- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.

- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills. Experience working effectively in a team environment.
