Frederick Summer Internship Program

The Internships at this site will run on a 10-week program schedule from  June 7, 2027 – August 13, 2027 . This is a paid, full-time-hourly (40 hours/week) position at the AstraZeneca manufacturing facility located at 636 Research Ct, Frederick, MD 21703. The hourly pay rate for these roles is $28/hr.

Roles at Frederick can fall under the following departments. Candidates will be considered for one or more functional areas based on their academic background. Assignments will be determined during the selection process.

Facilities & Site Operations Engineering

Engineering including mechanical, chemical, industrial, bio(medical) and related

- Lead site operations projects such engineering drawing with CAD, architectural remodeling, and preventive maintenance, and spare part development

- Support engineering department projects (process, facilities and sustainability)

Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE)

Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, and related

- Engage in site-wide projects such as human performance assessment trend analysis, hazardous material identification, SHE communications plans, and investigation of COF impact on manufacturing floors.

Manufacturing Operations

- Engineering (industrial, mechanical, chemical), Supply Chain, and related

- Analyze and report on data inputs to drive improvements, Support of Work Balancing Operations, and support ongoing department projects for site continuous improvement initiatives and overall process optimizations.

Manufacturing Science & Technology

Chemical / Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, and related

- Execute lab and process tasks such as solution preparation, perform basic measurements, and run simple unit operations (e.g., filtration or chromatography) while collecting and analyzing process data using Excel to identify trends and maintain clear records.

Operational Excellence

Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, and related

- Collect, analyze and track key performance metrics to ensure project goals are achieved by identifying root causes and collaborating sitewide to implement and sustain improvements.

Project Management

Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, and related

- Support various projects such as cost/benefit analysis for facility construction types (e.g. Modular vs Stick-built) and assist in capital management tracking and reporting.

Supply Chain

- Business Administration, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Analytics, and related

- Engage in various projects such as Inventory optimization, capacity modeling, digital tool implementation, and waste reduction in a lean manufacturing environment

Data Science

Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Analytics, and related

- Create machine learning, AI models from a wide variety of manufacturing data to visualize in dashboards and reports

Quality Control Laboratory

Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, and related

- Perform microbiological testing using laboratory skills such as pipetting and aseptic technique and analyze data to report on microbial hold time testing

Quality Control Information Systems

Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Chemistry, and related

- Support various projects such as implementation of Electronic Lab notebooks, validation of lab systems for upgrade, system automation

Quality Assurance Disposition and Documentation

Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and related

- Utilize document management system and implement electronic batch release documentation process.

Quality Assurance and Systems Data

Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, and related

- Design & Build Data Analytics Applications/dashboards that will help improve processes within Quality Organization such as deviations, documentation, quality validation reviews, and compliance activity. Collaborate with Quality Systems to aid in any support needed by the team and/or needed by the Quality Organization with respect to Quality Activity.

Individual roles' requirements vary, and the below are applicable to all:

- US Work Authorization is required at time of application.   Applicants must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa (e.g., CPT, H1-B, F-1 (OPT), TN, or other non-immigrant status).   This role will not be providing CPT or OPT letters of support.

- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field aligned with one or more of the functional areas listed above.

- Candidates must have an expected graduation date set for  after August 2027.

- Basic understanding of technical areas related to functional area of each internship position.

- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

- Candidates must adhere to the June 7, 2027 start date.

- Ability to report onsite to Frederick, MD 5 days a week . These roles will not provide relocation assistance.

- Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.

- Must have experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
