About this role
The Marine and Offshore Review Engineer I is responsible for conducting technical reviews and assessments of mechanical systems and equipment for marine and offshore facilities in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, industry standards, and client requirements. The engineer will support classification and certification activities, provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality engineering services.
What You Will Do:
- Review engineering plans, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation related to marine and offshore mechanical systems.
- Evaluate compliance with classification rules, statutory regulations, recognized industry standards, and client requirements.
- Conduct technical assessments of Marine and Offshore Equipment
- Support offshore and marine projects through design review and approval activities.
- Prepare technical review reports and communicate findings to clients and project teams.
- Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, project managers, and technical specialists across multiple disciplines.
- Assist in resolving technical issues and providing engineering recommendations.
- Maintain awareness of evolving industry regulations, technologies, and best practices.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. may be preferred.
- The following are new hire requirements for university graduates and experienced engineers from the industry (either I or II):
Graduate from University:
A. For those with seven (7) years or fewer Hull backgrounds or experience
- B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. may be preferred.
- Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
- Exposed to the Finite Element Method (coursework or supervised research).
B. For those with seven (7) years or fewer Machinery backgrounds or experience
- B.S. degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other related disciplines.
Experienced Engineer from Industry A or B:
A. Hull:
- Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
- Exposed to Finite Element Method (coursework or supervised research).
- Seven (7) years or more of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society or
- Professional or chartered engineer license and four (4) years or more of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or classification society.
B. Machinery:
- Seven (7) years or more of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society or
- Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license and four (4) years or more of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or classification society.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Core Mechanical Engineering Mechanical design fundamentals.
- Rotating equipment fundamentals.
- Static equipment fundamentals.
- Marine & Offshore Knowledge
Pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
- Pumps, compressors, and turbines.
- Diesel engines and generators.
- Offshore process equipment.
- Marine machinery systems.
- Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
Reporting Relationships:
- The incumbent will report to a senior-level engineer or technical manager. This position has no direct reports.
