About this role
The Architecture Group Manager is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Leads and directs a team of professionals. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact in order to achieve the objectives of the function. Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/ geographic regions. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication may be necessary. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Primarily affects a sub-function. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.
Responsibilities:
- Manages multiple architectural teams or an architecture functional area (depending on size of business).
- Evaluates subordinates' performance and makes recommendations for pay increases, promotions, terminations and other personnel actions.
- Develops the architectural strategy for a group (portfolio) of IT systems.
- Develops and recommends solutions that conform to enterprise standards.
- Develops technological and business application portfolio road maps, based on emerging technologies and market trends/direction.
- Responsible for all technical directions and decisions based on technical expertise, experience, vision and market directions.
- Supports the business/clients in evaluating and articulating the technical benefits of a solution to stakeholders.
- Analyzes and evaluates strategic technologies offered by vendors.
- Exhibits sound understanding of theories and practices in architecture and multiple related areas.
- Has in depth understanding of how architecture integrates within technology and has commercial awareness.
- Shares responsibility for budget, policy formulation and planning.
- Requires evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual information in complicated or novel situations; uses multiple sources of information.
- Impacts engineering through responsibility for planning, finances/ budget, end results and setting of policies.
- Influences and negotiates with senior leaders (across functions); may communicate and negotiate with external parties.

About the Role.
We are looking for a highly experienced Cloud Architecture Leader to drive the strategy, architecture and evolution of our enterprise Cloud platform as part of a major technology transformation.
This role requires a unique combination of strategic leadership and deep hands-on Cloud expertise . The ideal candidate has not only defined Cloud strategies and reference architectures, but has also designed, built and evolved enterprise-scale Cloud platforms and Landing Zones.
The role will provide end-to-end architectural ownership of the Cloud ecosystem , partnering with Architecture, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Networks, Operations, Finance and Data teams.
We are looking for someone capable of engaging senior stakeholders on Cloud strategy while going deep with engineering teams on architecture, design and implementation. This is not a purely governance-oriented role; real-world implementation experience and strong technical credibility are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture & Landing Zone
Own and evolve the enterprise Cloud architecture, target state, architectural principles, standards and technology roadmap.
Lead the architecture and continuous evolution of enterprise Cloud Landing Zones and foundational services , including:
- Multi-account environments and Cloud organization models
- Networking and hybrid connectivity
- Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Security controls, secrets and key management
- Observability, logging and monitoring
- Resilience, backup and disaster recovery
- Infrastructure as Code and automation
- Cloud governance and policy enforcement
- Shared platform services and workload onboarding
Ensure Cloud foundations enable secure, repeatable and scalable adoption across engineering, application, Data and AI teams.
Architecture to Execution
Translate Cloud strategy into implementable architectures, engineering decisions and actionable roadmaps .
Work directly with architects, Cloud engineers and platform teams to challenge designs, identify gaps, evaluate technical trade-offs and drive issues through resolution.
The candidate should be comfortable moving from an executive discussion into detailed technical conversations involving network topology, IAM, security controls, Infrastructure as Code, Cloud-native services, deployment patterns and resilience models .
Architecture ownership must extend beyond documentation: this role is expected to help ensure architecture becomes working technology .
Security, Governance & Risk
Partner with Cybersecurity, Risk and Engineering teams to embed security by design and by default .
Establish guardrails and automated controls that balance regulatory, security, data protection and operational resilience requirements with developer speed and autonomy.
Promote policy-as-code and automated governance , enabling teams to innovate without compromising enterprise controls.
FinOps & Cloud Cost Optimization
Apply FinOps principles and Cloud cost optimization practices across large-scale Cloud environments.
Analyze Cloud consumption and cost drivers, identify optimization opportunities, and ensure architectures balance performance, reliability, scalability and cost efficiency .
Experience should include cost allocation and tagging, budgeting and forecasting, rightsizing, commitment-based discount strategies, storage and data transfer optimization, anomaly detection and unit economics.
Partner with Engineering, Finance, Operations and business stakeholders to establish cost governance, accountability and measurable optimization initiatives, making cost an architectural consideration rather than an after-the-fact exercise.
Cloud Adoption, Data & AI
Create reusable architectures, secure-by-default patterns, paved roads and self-service capabilities that simplify Cloud adoption and improve developer experience.
Enable Cloud environments supporting modern applications, APIs, containers, Kubernetes, Data platforms, analytics, AI/ML and Generative AI workloads .
Partner with Data and AI teams to ensure these capabilities are supported securely, resiliently and cost-effectively at enterprise scale.
Hybrid & Multi-Cloud Architecture
Design architectures integrating Public Cloud with complex enterprise On-Premise environments , including networking, identity, security and operational dependencies.
AWS represents the primary area of technical depth, while the candidate should have sufficient Azure, GCP and multi-cloud awareness to make technology decisions from an enterprise perspective.
Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Cloud architects and engineers.
Raise the overall Cloud architecture capability by establishing standards, reference architectures and engineering practices.
Influence decisions across organizational boundaries and build alignment between Architecture, Engineering, Security, Infrastructure, Operations, Finance, Data and senior technology leadership .
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Significant experience in Cloud Architecture, Cloud Engineering or Platform Engineering .
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale Landing Zones .
- Deep hands-on AWS expertise , including complex multi-account enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise in Cloud networking, IAM, security, observability, resilience and governance.
- Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, automation and CI/CD .
- Experience designing hybrid Public Cloud / On-Premise architectures.
- Strong understanding of Cloud-native architectures, containers, Kubernetes and APIs.
- Experience with Data, AI/ML and GenAI workloads .
- Strong understanding of FinOps, Cloud economics and cost optimization .
- Practical application of the AWS Well-Architected Framework .
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and multi-cloud concepts.
- Knowledge or practical exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) , particularly for Data and AI, is desirable.
- Experience in large, regulated and highly complex enterprises , particularly financial services, is highly desirable.
- Strong executive communication combined with the technical depth to challenge senior architects and engineers.

Candidates should demonstrate strong and current AWS technical depth , ideally supported by multiple advanced certifications.

Ultimately, this role will establish and evolve the Cloud architecture foundations supporting the organization’s next generation of digital, Data and AI capabilities , while materially reducing the gap between architecture and engineering execution.
