Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Network Engineer. This position is located in Clearfield, UT and supports the ICBM Sustainment Team.

Note: This role is in support of a 24/7 Network Operations Center and will require on-call work in support of NOC operations.

What you’ll get to do:

• Maintain knowledge of current and emerging Industry and DoD trends and technologies in network frameworks, management and analytics and ensure proper utilization where applicable.

• Lead the diagnosis and resolution of critical network incidents to minimize downtime.

• Conduct deep-dive network performance analysis and proactively identify areas for optimization.

• Design, implement, and maintain network configurations, upgrades, and solutions.

• Ensure network security standards are adhered to and contribute to the development of security policies.

• Provide SME-level support and guidance to teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and program standards.

• Oversee patch management and vulnerability remediation programs, ensuring timely application of security updates across the network infrastructure.

• Document network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures to support long-term sustainability.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive runbooks, standard operating procedures, and configuration control documentation for all network services and devices.

• Work with ISSM to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., DoD RMF, NIST SP 800 53, ITAR) and audit requirements, preparing evidence and reports as needed.

• Collaborate with the SOC Lead, Information Security Engineer, and Information System Security Manager to ensure robust, secure, and compliant network operations.

Basic Qualifications:

• 12 years of relevant experience with Bachelors; 10 years of relevant experience with Masters; 8 years of relevant experience with PhD

• Experience leading a team and providing mentor opportunities for junior engineers

• Must possess or be able to obtain a DoD 8140 Certification for IAT Level II (Sec+, CySA+, CCNA-Security, CND) or higher within two (2) months of starting

• Must possess advanced network-related certifications (ex. CCNA, CCNP)

• Expert-level understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPSL, VLANS, and VPNs

• Detailed understanding of networking tools such as SolarWinds, Cisco Management tools, and Juniper firewalls

• Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active DoD Secret clearance

• Experience working on non-tradition networks such as software defined radio or other communication methods

• Experience performing troubleshooting with traffic capture tools, such as Wireshark and tcpdump, nmap and netcat.

• Working knowledge of cyber security and Risk Managed Framework (RMF), STIGs and associated elements

• Experience with or understanding network automation scripting using Ansible, Python, Bash, and Shell.

• Manage and prioritize workflow using ticket management system.

• Experience working in a 24/7 Operations Center.

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,000.00 - $208,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
