About this role
COMPANY INFORMATION
The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (TLI) is Los Angeles County's preeminent independent, not-for-profit biomedical research hub, excelling in transforming scientific breakthroughs into practical therapies. With a $90 million annual budget, TLI is home to over 150 investigators and 500 staff, advancing 600 projects in areas such as Infection and Immunity, Cancer, and Women's Health. Founded in 1952, the Institute continues to train physician-scientists and manage healthcare programs for 60,000 underserved families throughout South Los Angeles.
SUMMARY
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will conduct basic and translational research investigating the mechanisms regulating vascular permeability during sepsis. The research will focus on endothelial cell responses to physiological shear stress and signaling pathways associated with vascular leakage. The Fellow will conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, prepare manuscripts and figures for publication, and present research findings in laboratory and scientific meetings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform experiments using vascular endothelial cell monolayers under shear stress conditions to investigate vascular leak in sepsis.
- Perform real-time measurements of endothelial barrier function and permeability using Electrical Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS).
- Perform molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting, ChIP assays, cell culture, and analysis of signaling pathways.
- Maintain animal colonies and perform permeability studies
- Use human blood vessel organoids to investigate vascular permeability pathways
- Prepare research figures and manuscripts for publication.
- Present research findings in laboratory meetings and scientific forums.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the research program and organizational needs.
