Site Safety Manager – Tulsa Data Center

About the Role

Kelso Southwest is seeking an experienced Site Safety Manager to support a large data center construction project in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

This is a highly visible, field-based safety role supporting project leadership, superintendents, subcontractors, and craft professionals in maintaining a safe and compliant jobsite.

The Site Safety Manager will spend significant time in the field identifying hazards, monitoring compliance, coaching teams, verifying corrective actions, maintaining required documentation, and escalating serious safety concerns when necessary.

This project includes complex construction activities involving excavations and trenching, cranes and lifting operations, confined spaces, fall exposure, temporary power and electrical hazards, energized work, LOTO, heavy equipment, and multiple trades working simultaneously.

What You'll Do

- Lead day-to-day EHS activities and maintain a strong safety presence throughout the project.

- Conduct regular field inspections to identify hazards, monitor compliance, and communicate deficiencies to responsible project supervision.

- Monitor excavation and trenching activities and verify that required competent-person responsibilities, inspections, protective systems, and access/egress requirements are assigned and being performed.

- Monitor crane, rigging, and lifting operations for compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, and required documentation.

- Monitor confined-space activities , including required permits, atmospheric monitoring, access controls, and designated competent or qualified personnel.

- Monitor fall-protection practices and verify appropriate controls are established for work at elevation.

- Monitor electrical safety , including temporary power, electrical hazards, energized-work controls, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.

- Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, permits, and other required safety documentation.

- Monitor subcontractor safety performance, document identified deficiencies, and work with responsible supervision to track corrective actions through closure.

- Maintain accurate daily safety reports, inspection records, observations, incident documentation, and corrective-action records .

- Lead or support project orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and project-specific training.

- Facilitate incident and near-miss investigations in partnership with project supervision and affected employees, identify contributing and root causes, and verify corrective actions are completed.

- Partner with project managers and superintendents to integrate safety considerations into daily construction planning without transferring responsibility for safe execution away from field supervision.

- Coach employees and subcontractors on safe work practices and reinforce accountability throughout the project.

- Exercise stop-work authority when an imminent danger or serious uncontrolled hazard exists . Work may resume once appropriate controls have been established and verified.

- Support compliance with OSHA requirements, company standards, and project/customer-specific safety requirements.

- Participate in pre-mobilization planning, training, and project-specific safety preparation prior to field operations.

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of construction safety experience supporting commercial, industrial, mechanical, or other complex construction projects.

- Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and field safety practices.

- OSHA 30 – Construction.

- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification , or ability to obtain prior to project assignment.

- Demonstrated experience working with high-risk construction activities such as excavation/trenching, cranes and rigging, confined spaces, fall protection, electrical hazards, and LOTO.

- Experience conducting field inspections and maintaining detailed construction safety documentation and daily reporting.

- Ability to identify hazards, communicate concerns clearly, and work effectively with project leadership, subcontractors, and craft professionals.

- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through skills.

- Ability and willingness to spend the majority of the workday in an active construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Data center or mission-critical construction experience.

- Large-scale MEP, mechanical, piping, or industrial construction experience.

- CHST, ASP, CSP , or similar recognized safety credential.

- Additional competent-person or specialized training related to excavation/trenching, confined spaces, fall protection, electrical safety, or other high-hazard construction activities.

You'll know you're succeeding when hazards are identified before they become incidents, subcontractors and field teams understand expectations, deficiencies are documented and followed through to closure, required safety documentation is accurate and current, and project leadership has a trusted safety partner who can advise, coach, monitor, verify, and escalate when necessary.

The goal isn't simply to enforce rules. It's to help create a jobsite where project supervision owns the safe planning and execution of the work , designated competent and qualified persons fulfill their responsibilities, and everyone on the project understands their role in maintaining a safe workplace.
