Job Summary:

The Sterile Compounding Technician prepares sterile and hazardous compounded medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, following USP <795>, <797>, standards and all applicable state Board of Pharmacy regulations. This role requires precision, strict aseptic technique, and consistent compliance with safety and quality procedures in a controlled cleanroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare sterile compounded preparations (injectables, IV admixtures, ophthalmics, etc.) using proper aseptic technique in ISO-classified cleanrooms, per USP <795>/<797>.

- Compound using the correct Containment Primary Engineering Control (C-PEC) and Containment Secondary Engineering Control (C-SEC).

- Select and don correct drug PPE and follow spill-management and deactivation/decontamination procedures.

- Perform and document required garbing/gowning, hand hygiene, and disinfection of compounding areas and equipment before each batch.

- Accurately measure, mix, and prepare compounds according to physician orders and master formulation records.

- Perform quality checks (visual inspection, calculations, gravimetric/volumetric verification) prior to pharmacist final verification.

- Maintain accurate compounding logs, batch records, and beyond-use dating (BUD) documentation.

- Monitor and document cleanroom environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, pressure differentials) and equipment certifications (biological safety cabinets, isolators).

- Manage inventory of sterile compounding supplies, APIs, including proper storage, handling, and disposal per applicable DEA waste requirements.

- Complete ongoing competency assessments (media-fill testing, gloved fingertip/thumb sampling, garbing competency) per USP requirements.

- Immediately flag discrepancies, out-of-range results, or compounding errors to the supervising pharmacist.

- Maintain a clean, organized, compliant work area and support routine cleaning/disinfection schedules and cleanroom certifications.

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Active Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) through PTCB or ExCPT.

- Active state pharmacy technician registration/license in good standing.

- Minimum 1-2 years of hands-on sterile compounding experience in a hospital, compounding pharmacy, or 503A/503B facility.

- Demonstrated working knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, standards.

- Current (or able to complete within 30 days of hire) garbing competency, media-fill testing, and gloved fingertip/thumb sampling per USP <797>.

- Hands-on experience with drug handling, PPE selection, and spill-response procedures.

- Strong attention to detail and accurate calculation skills (dosages, dilutions, concentrations).

- Ability to work in a controlled cleanroom environment requiring full PPE/garbing for extended periods.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and pharmacist collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate's degree or completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program.

- Prior experience in a 503A or 503B outsourcing compounding pharmacy.

- Experience with automated compounding devices, IV robotics, or gravimetric workflow software.

- Additional sterile compounding credential beyond base CPhT certification.

- Experience with electronic batch record and pharmacy compounding software.

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods (up to a full shift) in a cleanroom environment.

- Ability to wear full PPE/garbing (gown, gloves, mask, hair/beard covers, shoe covers)

- Manual dexterity for precise measuring, mixing, and handling of small vials, syringes, and equipment.

- Ability to lift/carry up to 25-40 lbs (supply totes, boxes).

- Exposure to chemicals, and cleaning/disinfecting agents; must follow all Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and handling and exposure-control procedures.

- Work is performed in a controlled, ISO-classified cleanroom with strict gowning, hygiene, and environmental-monitoring requirements.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), 100% on-site position based in Miami Gardens (remote or hybrid work is not available).

Overtime hours may be offered from time to time.
