About this role

Area of Interest: Relationship Management

Business Area: Commercial Bank

Short Description: Help clients grow, manage wealth and achieve ambitions through trusted relationships

About the business area

Commercial Banking is our business-to-business offering, helping businesses of all sizes to grow - from small enterprises to large multinationals. We provide expert advice and essential services dependent on business needs. These could include trade finance, global payments, multi-currency accounts, commercial cards and insurance, alongside many others.

Who you are

You’re someone who enjoys building trust, supporting others and making a real impact. You don’t need to know everything about banking yet — bring your curiosity, initiative and willingness to learn, and we’ll help you build the rest. You could be a great fit if you communicate clearly, build relationships naturally and stay organised when things move quickly. You work well with others, pay attention to detail and adapt when priorities shift. You take ownership, look for solutions and care about doing good work. You’re also self-aware and motivated to keep growing. If helping clients succeed sounds energising, and you like the idea of learning in a relationship-led environment, this could be a strong fit.

What you'll do

From day one, you’ll work with Relationship Managers and specialist teams to support Commercial Banking clients. You’ll help build an understanding of each client’s business, goals and challenges, and see how HSBC brings together the right expertise to respond. You could support client presentations, reports and credit papers, help with strategic reviews and pitches, and carry out financial analysis and risk assessments on portfolios and transactions. You’ll also work with colleagues across Legal, Credit and Risk, and see how teams collaborate across functions and geographies to deliver tailored solutions. It’s practical, relationship-led work that gives you real exposure to how client partnerships are built and supported.

What you'll learn

You’ll start with structured training from local and external experts, giving you the technical grounding to begin with confidence. As your placement progresses, you’ll build a stronger understanding of relationship management in Commercial Banking, including how products, client needs and specialist teams come together to support businesses. You’ll also deepen your commercial awareness by seeing how relationship-led banking balances opportunity, service and risk. The placement is designed to help you connect what you learn to the bigger picture of how commercial banking works in practice. By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of this area of the bank, stronger professional confidence and a better sense of where you could make your mark.

Where you'll work

You’ll work in Commercial Banking, in a relationship-led environment supporting business clients through close teamwork and specialist expertise. You’ll be part of a collaborative office culture where Relationship Managers work closely with colleagues across Credit, Risk and Legal to deliver joined-up support. It’s a professional setting that values trust, communication and strong internal partnerships. Expect exposure to a business area where client relationships sit at the centre and teamwork makes the difference.
