THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you an experienced shepherd ready to take the next step in your farming career? This Senior Shepherd role is an opportunity to bring your livestock expertise, sound judgement, and practical skills to the day-to-day running of Mt Hamilton Farm as part of an energetic and innovative team.

Mt Hamilton is currently being run in conjunction with a neighbouring farm, creating a unique opportunity to gain experience across both breeding and trading operations involving sheep, cattle, and deer.

As the Senior Shepherd, you’ll be a key member of our small team, working closely with the Farm Manager and taking responsibility across livestock operations and general farm activities. You’ll be trusted to work independently, help plan and prioritise daily work, and contribute ideas that improve farm performance.

Whether you’re building on your shepherding experience or preparing to step into Stock Management, this role offers flexibility and genuine career development

Your key responsibilities will include:

- helping plan and implement grazing programmes
- monitoring livestock performance and animal health
- taking responsibility for stock movements and seasonal livestock work
- supporting breeding and trading operations
- guiding less-experienced team members
- maintaining accurate livestock and farm records

ABOUT YOU

You’re passionate about farming, love working with livestock, and want to be part of a team that gets results. You’re practical and always looking for ways to do the job better.

You will:

- Enjoy working with animals and take their welfare seriously
- Have a team of capable working dogs
- Be organised, reliable, and self-motivated in your daily tasks
- Communicate clearly and work well as part of a team
- Be comfortable keeping accurate records and using farm technology (or keen to learn)
- Take a proactive approach to health, safety, and looking after farm assets
- Have a valid restricted or full driver licence

ABOUT US

Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a State-Owned Enterprise with over 110 farms across New Zealand. Our purpose is to lead the delivery of innovative and sustainable agriculture solutions for future generations.

THE FARM

Mt Hamilton Farm is 1,400ha effective, comprising 600ha of flat to rolling country along Chewing’s Road and the Te Anau–Mossburn Highway, plus 800ha of tussock hill country.

The station runs 600 MA hinds, 450 calving Angus cows, aiming to keep all progeny. Up to 3,000 lambs are brought in for finishing over the summer.
