About this role
Description
Amazon LEO is building a Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation designed to provide connectivity to customers around the world.
We are looking for an experienced technical professional with broad, hands-on experience across the direct-to-device (D2D) satellite and cellular ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of satellite systems, ground infrastructure, cellular networks, commercial devices, and external partners.
The ideal candidate has already worked on real D2D, NTN, satellite-to-cellular, or closely related systems and understands how the different elements of an end-to-end service fit together. This is not a role focused on a single engineering discipline. We are looking for someone who can see the complete system, work effectively with specialized engineering teams, lead complex technical initiatives, and translate between satellite, network, device, and customer environments.
The successful candidate will combine broad technical knowledge with practical experience, strong ownership, and the ability to work directly with customers and partners in a fast-moving, international environment.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities
• Develop new capabilities, processes, and tools required to support and scale D2D services across satellite, network, device, and partner environments.
• Lead complex cross-functional technical programs and initiatives, coordinating engineering teams and external partners to deliver solutions.
• Work directly with mobile network operators, device OEMs, RAN vendors, and technology partners to understand requirements, develop solutions, and resolve technical challenges.
• Build trusted technical relationships with customers and partners and represent the solution in technical discussions, demonstrations, integration activities, and field deployments.
• Work across the complete D2D service chain, connecting satellite and ground systems, RAN, core networks, and commercial devices to identify dependencies and coordinate solutions across engineering organizations.
• Apply broad working knowledge of satellite, ground, and cellular architectures to support system-level technical decisions and problem solving.
• Develop and improve scalable approaches for partner integration, device and system validation, automation, data collection, and operational readiness.
• Participate directly in laboratory, integration, and field activities when hands-on involvement is required to understand system behavior or resolve issues.
• Develop repeatable processes and documentation that allow solutions to scale across partners, customers, countries, and deployments.
• Work effectively across geographically distributed, international and multicultural engineering and customer organizations.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate's degree or above
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in the Direct-to-Device (D2D) ecosystem, including NTN or direct satellite-to-cellular connectivity.
- Demonstrated professional experience working across both satellite/ground systems and cellular RAN environments in support of D2D services.
- Experience delivering end-to-end D2D technical programs involving multiple systems, engineering disciplines, and stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with mobile network operators and external technology partners to develop, integrate, demonstrate, or deploy D2D capabilities.
- Practical experience supporting D2D system development, integration, laboratory, field, and customer-facing activities
- Experience working with commercial mobile-device ecosystems, such as Apple/iPhone, Samsung/Galaxy, Google/Pixel, or equivalent, specifically in support of D2D services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing or leading technical tools, applications, automation, processes, or operational capabilities supporting D2D programs.
- Experience working across international, geographically distributed, and multicultural technical or customer organizations.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across engineering teams, technology partners, customers, and leadership organizations.
