Job Description:
The General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations across multiple drywall construction projects. This position provides leadership and direction to Project Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and company standards.
The General Superintendent serves as the primary link between field operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Operations Management and is responsible for maintaining consistent field procedures, manpower planning, productivity, quality, and accountability across all active projects.
What Will You Do?
- Provide overall leadership and supervision of field operations across multiple active projects.
- Manage and mentor Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, and field crews.
- Coordinate manpower requirements and crew allocation based on project schedules, priorities, and workload.
- Review project schedules and develop field manpower plans to meet required milestones.
- Monitor labor productivity, production rates, and manpower costs against project budgets.
- Ensure proper execution of metal stud framing, drywall installation, insulation, taping/finishing, ceilings, and other assigned scopes of work.
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and field conditions prior to and during construction.
- Conduct regular project site visits to evaluate progress, manpower, productivity, safety, quality, andoverall jobsite performance.
- Identify potential schedule, manpower, material, coordination, or constructability issues before theyimpact project performance.
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers regarding schedules, change orders, RFIs, materialrequirements, manpower, and field conditions.
- Participate in preconstruction, project kickoff, scheduling, and coordination meetings as required.
- Ensure Foremen understand project scope, labor budgets, production expectations, and schedulerequirements before beginning work.
- Monitor and verify daily manpower reporting, timekeeping, T&M work, and field documentation.
- Ensure extra work and changes in scope are properly documented before or while work is beingperformed.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, lifts, scaffolding, tools, and other field resources.
- Maintain strong working relationships with General Contractors, owners, subcontractors, unionrepresentatives, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
- Enforce company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements across all projects.
- Maintain high standards for workmanship, quality control, cleanliness, and jobsite organization.
- Assist with resolving field conflicts, coordination issues, and performance concerns.
- Participate in hiring, training, evaluation, and development of field supervision and key fieldpersonnel.
- Support project closeout, punch list completion, and final turnover.
- Maintain accountability for field performance and continuously identify opportunities to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
What You Bring?
- Minimum 10 years of commercial drywall construction experience, with significant experience in field supervision.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior Superintendent, General Superintendent, or comparable field leadership position preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of metal stud framing, drywall, insulation, taping/finishing, acoustical ceilings, and related interior construction systems.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, RFIs, submittals, and change documentation.
- Proven ability to manage manpower and field operations across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of labor productivity, production rates, project budgets, and cost control.
- Experience working on large commercial, multifamily, high-rise, tenant improvement, and/or public works projects.
- Experience working with union labor preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, Project Managers, General Contractors, and senior management.
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between active project sites as required
Salary Range:
$135,000-$160,000
