OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Support the integration of accurate cost, productivity, and financial assumptions into the medium-term planning framework.
- Ensure planning decisions are informed by validated cost models, operational performance data, and realistic production assumptions aligned with the Life of Mine strategy.
- Maintain cost modelling tools, reconcile physical and financial variances, and ensure cost inputs improve the quality, realism, and value of medium-term schedules.
- Link operational performance, financial expectations, and planning horizons to support reliable business forecasting and execution readiness.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to support compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm.
- Maintain and update cost models, including labour, equipment, material, development, and stope-related unit rates to support medium-term planning accuracy.
- Ensure all financial and productivity assumptions used in schedules reflect validated data, historical performance, and current operational constraints.
- Support the integration of cost inputs into Deswik schedules by providing validated rates, unit costs, and productivity metrics.
- Contribute to reconciliation processes across the medium-term horizon, including variance analysis between planned and actual costs, physicals, and productivity.
- Prepare regular cost modelling reports and dashboards to support operational reviews, business planning, and planning forums.
- Ensure cost assumptions reflect changes in infrastructure timing, development strategy, mining method adjustments, and operational readiness requirements.
- Coordinate with production engineering, LOM planning, mine operations, and finance teams to ensure alignment between physical schedules and financial expectations.
- Support capital planning by providing cost inputs related to development corridors, infrastructure requirements, sequencing options, and mining method scenarios.
- Maintain documentation, templates, and cost-modelling processes to support governance, repeatability, and audit readiness.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance the accuracy, usability, and integration of cost models within planning workflows.
- Assist medium-term planners by providing costed scenarios, sensitivity analysis, and decision-support information to improve schedule quality and business alignment.
- Ensure ground control, ventilation, void management, and other technical inputs are costed accurately within planning assumptions.
- Support training, knowledge-sharing, and capability development across the planning team where cost-modelling expertise is required.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining or Finance or related discipline.
- Training in mine planning software such as Deswik is desirable.
- Training in financial modelling, business analysis, or cost estimation is an advantage.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver’s licence as required by site.
Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience in underground mining, technical services, business analysis, or cost modelling roles.
- Experience with cost modelling, budgeting, forecasting, or financial analysis within a mining environment.
- Experience supporting mine planning processes or working with technical inputs such as development metres, stope performance, and infrastructure sequencing.
- Exposure to Deswik or similar scheduling platforms and ability to integrate validated cost assumptions into planning software.
- Experience in variance analysis, reconciliation processes, and performance tracking against forecast.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of strategic mine planning, operational cost drivers, and mining capital costs estimation is essential.
- Knowledge of business planning reporting requirements is required.
- Understanding of unit rate development, productivity assumptions, equipment utilisation, and operational cost structures.
- Familiarity with technical services workflows, business improvement initiatives, and schedule-based reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop, validate, and maintain complex cost models.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools for data analysis, forecasting, dashboards, and reconciliation.
- Ability to interpret mine plans, physicals, and production metrics to support cost and productivity analysis.
- Clear and concise communication skills for presenting cost inputs, analyses, and recommendations.
- Strong organisational skills for managing multiple planning inputs, updates, and reporting cycles.
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
