Purpose
The Senior Payment Manager is the highest-level individual contributor within the Site Payments job family. The role serves as a subject matter expert for complex global payment programs, leads strategic operational initiatives, manages critical escalations, and establishes practical standards and controls that improve payment delivery, compliance, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Provide subject matter expertise for complex global investigator grant and site payment programs.
Own payment delivery for strategically important, high-risk, or highly complex portfolios.
Lead resolution of critical payment, reconciliation, contract interpretation, data, and financial control issues.
Define and improve standard processes, controls, templates, metrics, and operating practices for site payments.
Lead operational inputs for client governance, executive reviews, and complex cross-functional discussions.
Assess payment risks and control gaps, recommend mitigation actions, and support their implementation.
Lead assigned transformation, automation, system implementation, transition, and stabilization initiatives.
Provide functional mentoring, technical guidance, and knowledge development for payment team members without direct line management responsibility.
Partner with line managers to support capability development, workload risk identification, and operational readiness.
Ensure payment operations and supporting documentation remain audit and inspection ready.
What You Will Bring to the Role
Deep subject matter expertise in global investigator grant and site payment operations.
Advanced understanding of clinical study contracts, budgets, payment schedules, reconciliations, and financial controls.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex programs and influence senior stakeholders.
Strong strategic thinking, risk management, problem-solving, and executive communication skills.
Experience defining scalable processes and leading operational transformation.
Ability to provide functional leadership while remaining an individual contributor.
Your Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Life Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
8-10 years of experience in investigator grant payments, clinical trial finance, site finance, or related operations.
Extensive experience supporting complex global programs and senior client or sponsor stakeholders is preferred.
Experience leading payment transformation, transition, automation, or system implementation initiatives is preferred.
Success Measures
Stable and compliant delivery across strategic or high-risk payment programs.
Effective resolution of critical escalations and control gaps.
Measurable improvement in payment quality, efficiency, and standardization.
Positive client governance, audit, inspection, and stakeholder outcomes.
