Your Role
In this pivotal role, you will provide expert legal, compliance, and data privacy guidance across the Healthcare business in South Africa and the Life Science business spanning Southern, Western and Eastern Africa, including markets such as Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. Reporting to the regional Head of Legal, Compliance and Data Privacy, you will act as a trusted strategic advisor and key point of contact for leadership teams, delivering practical and effective legal, compliance, and data privacy support. You will advise on contractual, commercial, medical, research, and digital initiatives, drive the rollout of global compliance and data privacy frameworks, manage risk, deliver training, and lead cross-functional projects. Working closely with regional and global teams, legal entities, and external partners, you will help build a strong compliance culture and support ethical business practices across the region. You will also oversee due diligence processes, support investigations, audits and corrective actions, and may contribute to broader regional or global initiatives as needed.
Who You Are
- Law degree with admission to practice in a South African jurisdiction
- At least 4 years of post-qualification experience in healthcare and/or life sciences, ideally gained at a large law firm or an international healthcare or life sciences organization
- Working knowledge of multinational corporate compliance requirements, including anti-bribery, anti-corruption and data privacy regulations
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence senior stakeholders across different cultures
- Strong organizational, communication and influencing skills
- A proactive, pragmatic approach, with the ability to perform well under pressure and manage change
- Working understanding of artificial intelligence tools and their practical applications, limitations and ethical considerations, applied responsibly in day-to-day work
- Fluent in written and spoken English, with the ability to work effectively in an international, culturally diverse environment
