About this role

Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

Position Summary:

The Implementation Senior Analyst is responsible for delivering reliable healthcare interface solutions for ambulatory clients by building, configuring, testing, implementing, and maintaining technical integrations. This role manages interface implementation activities from requirements gathering through validation and delivery, troubleshoots complex technical issues, and helps ensure solutions are completed accurately and on schedule. The position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, together with experience in healthcare data exchange technologies such as Health Level Seven (HL7), interface engines, networking protocols, Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections, Secure Shell (SSH), Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), and Extensible Markup Language (XML). Working closely with clients, vendors, internal stakeholders, and teams across India and the United States, the Implementation Senior Analyst helps resolve integration challenges and deliver a seamless client experience. This is an in-person role based in Chennai, India, and reports to the Implementation Manager.

About the Team:

The Implementation team delivers and supports a broad range of integrations for ambulatory clients. Team members manage a portfolio of new interface builds, coordinate implementation activities, support issue resolution, and identify workflow gaps that could affect delivery quality, timelines, or the client experience.

The team collaborates closely with interface vendors and client stakeholders to clarify requirements, validate solutions, and support smooth, successful implementations. It also partners with athenahealth teams in the United States—including Customer Succes Manager(CSM), Project Manager (PM), and the Client Support Center (CSC)—to align priorities and resolve integration-related issues. Familiarity with ambulatory or hospital workflows and healthcare information systems is advantageous when addressing complex technical and operational requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

- Design, build, configure, test, implement, and support healthcare interfaces for ambulatory client implementations.
- Investigate and resolve complex integration issues involving HL7 messaging, interface engines, networking protocols, VPN connections, SSH, SFTP, and XML-based data exchanges.
- Manage and prioritize a portfolio of interface implementation projects to meet established quality standards, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
- Coordinate requirements gathering, solution validation, and testing activities with clients, interface vendors, and internal cross-functional teams.
- Assess ambulatory and hospital workflows, identify integration gaps and dependencies, and recommend improvements that strengthen implementation outcomes.
- Validate end-to-end interface functionality through structured testing, defect reproduction, root-cause analysis, and resolution tracking.
- Create and maintain clear, accurate documentation of technical requirements, interface configurations, testing results, implementation decisions, and project status.
- Collaborate effectively with U.S.-based teams, internal stakeholders, clients, and vendors to align priorities, address risks, and ensure successful implementation delivery.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

- Support process improvement initiatives that enhance the quality, efficiency, and consistency of interface implementation delivery.
- Share technical knowledge, implementation best practices, and lessons learned from completed interface projects with team members.
- Participate in client and stakeholder meetings to clarify technical requirements, communicate implementation status, and address interface-related questions.
- Develop and maintain training materials, implementation templates, and technical reference documentation to support team readiness and knowledge transfer.
- Maintain accurate and consistent interface documentation, project records, and status updates across implementation tracking tools.
- Proactively identify and escalate implementation risks, technical blockers, and dependencies to support timely resolution.
- Review interface-related defects, coordinate corrective actions, and support post-go-live follow-up to promote solution stability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen interface support practices, implementation workflows, and overall service quality.

Expected Education & Experience:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Science, Statistics, or another quantitative discipline.
- 4+ years’ of overall experience in technical support, operations, information technology, and/or the U.S. healthcare industry.
- At least one year of project management experience, including responsibility for technical projects with significant cross-functional dependencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with geographically distributed teams across India and the United States.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly, collaborate with relevant stakeholders, and drive problems through resolution.
- Excellent logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with a demonstrated commitment to continuously expanding technical knowledge and skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams to achieve high-quality, timely outcomes.
- Curious, creative, and proactive approach to learning, analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Willingness and ability to work during U.S. business hours (5:30 p.m.–2:30 a.m. IST).

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of the healthcare domain, including healthcare interfaces and interface engine technologies.
- Working knowledge of HL7 standards and healthcare data exchange concepts.
- Understanding of patient safety principles and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.
- Clinical experience or familiarity with clinical workflows.
- Certification in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platform.
