At KGUN 9, we know weather is more than a forecast. It helps our viewers plan their days, stay safe during severe conditions, and stay connected to the community they call home. As our Morning Meteorologist, you'll be a trusted voice delivering accurate, engaging, and impactful weather coverage across multiple platforms. You'll analyze data from advanced weather technology, provide critical updates when conditions change, and help viewers understand the stories behind the forecast. WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Analyze weather data from radar, satellite, and other forecasting tools to create accurate forecasts and weather stories.
- Prepare and deliver compelling daily weathercasts for morning newscasts.
- Provide urgent weather updates and breaking weather coverage when severe conditions impact the community.
- Create and present weather content across television, digital, radio, and social media platforms.
- Evaluate weather developments and identify story opportunities that impact local audiences.
- Report live from the field, community events, and weather-related locations as needed.
- Produce weather graphics and visual presentations using modern weather technology and newsroom systems.
- Write and produce weather and news content for multiple platforms under daily deadlines.
- Collaborate with photographers, producers, reporters, and newsroom leadership to deliver comprehensive coverage.
- Research, gather, and verify information through interviews, observation, and data analysis to create informative weather storytelling.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology preferred.
- Generally 3+ years of meteorology, weather broadcasting, or related experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance meeting company-required limits are required for this driving role.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Strong understanding of meteorology, forecasting principles, and weather presentation techniques.
- Proficiency with weather systems, newsroom technology, and computer-based forecasting tools.
- Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment and field reporting workflows.
- Experience with video editing systems and digital content production.
- Strong broadcast writing skills and knowledge of AP Style.
- Ability to create and publish engaging content across websites, social media, and digital platforms.
- Excellent communication and on-air presentation skills.
- Strong news judgment and storytelling ability.
- Self-motivation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and breaking-weather situations simultaneously.
