Director, IT & Business Intelligence
Role Summary
The Director, IT & Business Intelligence is responsible for stabilizing, structuring, and scaling ENERGY’s IT, integration, and data ecosystem during a critical phase of transformation.
This role will take ownership of a partially fragmented environment and bring clarity, reliability, and scalability across systems, integrations, and data. The Director will ensure strong day-to-day IT operations while building the foundation for a high-performing, data-driven organization.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced, mid-sized environment, requiring a player-coach who can operate both strategically and tactically, with a strong bias for action and problem-solving.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Establish a clear and documented view of current-state architecture (systems, integrations, data flows, dependencies)
- Stabilize critical infrastructure and recurring system issues
- Assess and prioritize integration and EDI reliability gaps
- Bring structure to data governance, ownership, and definitions
- Deliver initial high-impact dashboards for Operations, Sales, and Finance
- Define a practical roadmap for integration, automation, and BI scalability
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Infrastructure Stability
- Own and oversee day-to-day IT operations (helpdesk, infrastructure, systems administration)
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and security across all platforms
- Establish and manage SLAs, prioritization frameworks, and escalation protocols
- Identify and eliminate recurring issues through root cause analysis and proactive monitoring
- Manage external vendors and technology partners with clear accountability
Integration, EDI & System Architecture Ownership
- Own and define ENERGY’s system architecture and integration strategy
- Lead the stabilization, optimization, and scalability of system integrations (TMS, CRM, ERP, WMS, etc.)
- Oversee EDI processes with customers and partners, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and efficiency
- Document and structure data flows, system dependencies, and integration logic
- Establish system-of-record principles and data ownership clarity
- Identify and resolve integration gaps, inefficiencies, and operational risks
Business Intelligence & Data Enablement
- Build and deliver executive-level dashboards (CEO, Sales, Operations, Finance)
- Enable real-time visibility into key business metrics (revenue, GP, service, productivity)
- Translate business needs into scalable data solutions that drive decision-making
- Improve data quality, accessibility, and consistency across systems
- Establish data governance standards (definitions, ownership, usage)
- Support commercial strategy through data insights (pricing, segmentation, performance)
Automation & Process Optimization
- Identify and implement automation opportunities across operational workflows
- Reduce manual intervention through integration and process redesign
- Partner with Operations and Sales to improve efficiency, scalability, and execution quality
- Contribute to achieving automation targets across the order lifecycle
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary IT team (Helpdesk, Sys Admin, Integration/EDI, BI)
- Operate as a player-coach, directly involved in problem-solving and execution
- Clarify roles, responsibilities, and priorities across subteams
- Drive accountability, performance management, and continuous improvement
- Foster strong collaboration between IT, Operations, Sales, and Finance
Governance, Documentation & Continuity
- Establish and enforce documentation standards across systems, integrations, and data
- Ensure continuity, knowledge transfer, and reduced dependency on individuals
- Bring structure and discipline to a historically fragmented environment
Profile & Qualifications
- Proven experience in IT leadership within a fast-paced, mid-sized, or high-growth environment
- Strong expertise in systems integration (APIs, EDI, data flows) and business intelligence
- Demonstrated ability to stabilize and structure complex or underdeveloped environments
- Hands-on, player-coach mindset with a strong bias for action
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, systems administration, and support functions
- Experience working with TMS, CRM, ERP, or similar operational systems (logistics experience is an asset)
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into business outcomes
- Proven ability to operate in ambiguous, evolving environments
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
