Description

Overall Objective:

To provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality diagnostic imaging services by performing accurate radiographic and ultrasound examinations using appropriate techniques, established protocols, and sound clinical judgment. Ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout each examination while maintaining professionalism, technical competency, attention to detail, and efficient workflow. Supports a positive patient experience and contributes to the effective operation of the imaging department.

Principal Activities and Expected End Results

- Provides high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care while maintaining patient comfort, privacy, dignity, and safety throughout the examination.
- Performs x-ray and ultrasound examinations as ordered, utilizing appropriate techniques and established protocols to obtain accurate and diagnostically useful images.
- Explain examination procedures to patients in clear, understandable terms and provides appropriate instructions throughout the examination.
- Prepares, positions, and immobilizes patients appropriately for x-ray and ultrasound examinations while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Perform routine and complex x-ray and ultrasound examinations according to established department protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrates proficiency in appropriate scanning and imaging techniques and makes technical adjustments as needed to obtain clear, complete, and diagnostically useful images.
- Operates x-ray and ultrasound equipment safely and effectively and performs routine equipment checks prior to use.
- Prepares examination rooms and ensures necessary equipment, supplies, and materials are available for patient procedures.
- Follows all applicable radiation safety procedures, ultrasound safety practices, infection control requirements, and organizational policies.
- Maintains clean, safe, sanitary, and organized examination rooms and equipment.
- Reviews patient information and examination indications prior to performing studies and ensures examinations are completed according to established procedures.
- Complete accurate and timely examination documentation in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Communicates significant patient concerns or examination-related issues to the appropriate radiologist or supervisor and promptly reports equipment malfunctions or other operational concerns.
- Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, accountability, and respectful communication in all interactions with patients, coworkers, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and demonstrates empathy, patience, and professionalism throughout all patient encounters.
- Adapts to changing patient volumes, examination needs, and departmental priorities while maintaining quality patient care and efficient workflow.
- Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to assist with the needs of the department and patient population.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations, patient care, and overall patient experience.

Requirements

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience

- Associate’s Degree in Sonography or Radiology
- Associate’s Degree or Certificate in Sonography or Radiology
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with ARDMS
- ARRT in X-Ray and Sonography
- Basic Life Support Certification

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience

- Prior experience in an ultrasound department and/or x-ray department

Compensation for this opportunity ranges based on experience from $28.70-$40.53 an hour

Physical Requirements:

- Standing and walking: You may spend much of a shift on your feet.
- Lifting and transferring patients: You may need to help move or reposition patients, including patients who have limited mobility. Able to lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs. without assistance and greater than 20 lbs. with assistance.
- Pushing/pulling equipment: X-ray machines, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other equipment may need to be moved.
- Bending, reaching, and kneeling: Positioning patients and equipment can require awkward or sustained positions.
- Fine motor skills: You need enough hand coordination to operate equipment and position patients accurately.
- Vision: Adequate vision is generally needed to position patients, read displays, and assess images.
- Hearing/communication: You need to communicate with patients and coworkers, sometimes while wearing protective equipment.
- Working around radiation: You follow radiation-safety procedures and use shielding and monitoring equipment.
- Stamina: Shifts can involve repeated patient positioning and relatively little sitting.
