Job Summary

The Consulting Software Engineer serves as a senior technical expert and architect for complex, mission-critical utility applications. This role leads solution design, application development, modernization, integration, testing, and production support across Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Meter Data Management (MDM), data exchange, and related enterprise platforms. Working closely with Product Owners, business partners, infrastructure, cybersecurity, user experience, project delivery teams, and vendors, this position defines the technical vision and roadmap, translates business needs into scalable solutions, and guides engineering teams from requirements through implementation and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities :

- Own the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for assigned products and applications, ensuring new features and enhancements align with business goals, enterprise standards, and long-term strategy.

- Lead requirements analysis, solution design, configuration, development, integration, testing, deployment, and production support for complex enterprise applications.

- Provide technical leadership for DER, AMI, MDM, data exchange, customer information, billing, outage management, Salesforce, and other utility platforms and integrations.

- Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to refine product backlogs, clarify business and technical requirements, estimate work, and remove delivery blockers.

- Lead cross-functional product teams using Agile practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, technical reviews, release planning, and stakeholder communication.

- Direct and mentor software engineers and other team members; lead design and code reviews and reinforce secure coding practices, engineering standards, and architectural consistency.

- Define integration strategies and govern reliable data exchange across enterprise systems, including high-volume meter and distributed energy resource data.

- Ensure functional and technical test coverage, identify opportunities for automated testing, and lead implementation of test automation.

- Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, incident response, break/fix support, performance optimization, and ongoing product maintenance.

- Create and validate architecture diagrams, technical designs, implementation plans, support documentation, and other required project and product artifacts.

- Serve as the primary technical contact for infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendors, and other delivery partners.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

- 15 years Experience with Itron MV-90, MV-Web, FCS, UIQ, MDM, AMI, or OpenWay platforms is preferred.

- 15 or more years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, application development, systems analysis, solution architecture, or a directly related field.

- 15 or more years Experience with utility technologies such as DER, AMI, MDM, metering platforms, or enterprise data integration is strongly preferred.

- Expert knowledge of application architecture, software development practices, systems analysis, programming, integrations, and the full software development lifecycle.

- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and delivering complex, enterprise-scale solutions.

- Experience applying rapidly changing technology to business needs and balancing functional, technical, security, reliability, and operational requirements.

- Strong analytical, conceptual, decision-making, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with and influence employees, leaders, customers, and partners at all levels.

- Ability to establish customer trust, understand business processes, manage competing priorities and deadlines, and work independently in a high-accountability environment.

Education Requirements

Education Level:

Master of science in Computer Science. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:

$116300 - $151100

The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location.
