What Is The Opportunity
The Hamilton LRT Alliance has been selected by Metrolinx as the development partner for the Hamilton LRT, Package 1: Civil & Utilities. Under the alliance model, Aecon provides construction capability and resources as part of an integrated team, working collaboratively with all alliance participants to progress design, cost, and construction schedules during the project’s development phase. The Hamilton LRT isn’t just a transit project, it’s reshaping how a city connects, grows, and moves. The Information Technology & AI Digital Innovation Manager responsible for managing the HaLRT project information technology strategy, IT infrastructure, digital systems, software development initiatives, and AI-driven innovation programs. The role requires reliable operation of all IT systems, oversees procurement and maintenance of technology assets, and drives the development and implementation of software applications, automation solutions, and digital tools that support project functions.
The successful candidate will serve as the HaLRT project IT Manager, bridging business operations with emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital Engineering, Cloud Computing, and enterprise collaboration platforms.
What You'll Do Here
1. IT Infrastructure Management
- Develop and implement the project IT strategy.
- Manage all IT hardware, software, networks, cloud services, and cybersecurity systems.
- Ensure availability, performance, security, and reliability of IT systems.
- Establish disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity plans.
- Manage Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Copilot, Autodesk, and other enterprise platforms.
- Oversee system upgrades, software licensing, and technology lifecycle management.
2. IT Procurement & Asset Management
- Assist procurement of all IT equipment, software, subscriptions, and cloud services.
- Develop technology standards and approved product catalogs.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts.
- Maintain hardware and software asset registers.
- Monitor maintenance contracts, warranties, and service agreements.
- Ensure efficient inventory management of IT assets.
3. Software Development & Digital Solutions
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of custom applications and software tools required for HaLRT project.
- Coordinate with development teams, external consultants, and software vendors.
- Develop solutions supporting:
- Construction management
- BIM and Digital Engineering
- Document control
- Project controls
- Quality and Safety management
- Field inspections
- GIS and Survey operations
- Asset management
- Engineering workflows
- Human resources
- Project management
- Establish software development standards and governance.
4. Artificial Intelligence & Innovation
- Develop the HaLRT Project AI strategy and roadmap.
- Identify and implement AI solutions to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging technologies including:
- Microsoft Copilot
- OpenAI technologies
- Generative AI
- Machine Learning
- Agentic AI
- Predictive Analytics
- Digital Assistants
- Claude AI
- Develop AI governance, policy, and responsible use frameworks.
- Promote AI adoption across business units and project teams.
5. Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Coordinate cybersecurity strategy and implementation with subcontractor, Vendors.
- Ensure compliance with:
- ISO 27001
- Privacy regulations
- Client cybersecurity requirements
- Corporate governance policies
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and security audits.
- Develop cybersecurity awareness programs.
What You Bring to The Team
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering and/or Information Systems
- 5+ years' of progressive IT leadership experience.
- 5+ years' managing enterprise IT environments.
- Experience in construction, engineering, architecture, infrastructure, or design organizations
- Experience managing software development projects.
- Experience implementing cloud and AI technologies.
- Experience leading digital transformation initiatives.

- Working on major infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting multi-office project delivery organizations.
- Experience with construction technology ecosystems.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $120,000 - $130,000 per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
