Role Overview:
We are seeking a technically strong, curious, and student-focused STEM Advisory Mentor to support high school students in developing research projects, computational work, engineering projects, and competition submissions. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or Master's student with strong subject knowledge and a demonstrated project, research, or technical portfolio. You will work with students from the early stages of an idea through to a well-structured research project, technical prototype, competition submission, or publication. This role combines STEM mentorship, research guidance, computational problem solving, and academic development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Student Mentorship & Project Development:
- Develop, refine, and stress test physics, mathematics, computer science, data science, and engineering project ideas.
- Help students turn broad interests into focused research questions, hypotheses, methodologies, and feasible project plans.
- Support programming, debugging, data analysis, modelling, simulations, statistical analysis, and visualisation.
- Support computational and engineering projects, including prototyping, CAD, digital design, and simulations where relevant.
- Guide students through literature searches, literature reviews, research methodology, and interpretation of academic papers.
- Review research methods, datasets, analyses, results, papers, proposals, posters, presentations, and technical reports.

2. Competitions & Publications:
- Prepare students for research and innovation competitions such as IRIS, Conrad Challenge, Blue Ocean, and similar national or international STEM competitions.
- Guide students on competition strategy, project framing, technical development, documentation, presentations, and judging criteria.
- Support students interested in publishing their work, including manuscript structure, research standards, peer review, revisions, and publication ethics.
- Help students identify appropriate publication platforms designed for high school researchers, such as the Journal of Student Research and the Journal of Emerging Investigators.

3. STEM Pathways & Application Support:
- Identify relevant competitions, internships, research programmes, summer schools, external mentors, and other STEM opportunities.
- Help students explore STEM majors, minors, concentrations, and interdisciplinary academic pathways.
- Review STEM application materials, including activity descriptions, research summaries, project portfolios, and competition descriptions.
- Evaluate students holistically, considering interests, curiosity, communication, initiative, personal character, and unique perspectives alongside academic preparation.

4. Resource Development & Internal Contribution:
- Develop and facilitate STEM workshops, bootcamps, research guides, and technical learning resources.
- Contribute to internal STEM resources, mentor training, and counsellor training.
- Work with the counselling team to align STEM project work with students' overall application strategy.
