Michael Baker International is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic Civil Engineering Interns to join our team for the Spring/Summer 2027 Internship Program in our New York, NY; Newark, NJ; or Pennington, NJ offices.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside industry-leading engineers, planners, architects, and construction professionals on some of the most impactful transportation and infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey and New York . Internship opportunities are available in the following practice areas:
- Highway Design
- Bridge Design
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Traffic Engineering & Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
- Construction Services
- Electrical Engineering

Responsibilities
As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will work closely with project managers, engineers, and technical specialists to support a variety of transportation and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with engineering analyses, calculations, and technical documentation
- Supporting the preparation of drawings, plans, exhibits, and visual presentation materials
- Contributing to CAD and design production activities
- Collecting, organizing, verifying, and analyzing project data
- Assisting with project coordination, field activities, and construction-related tasks, as applicable
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative engineering solutions
- Performing assignments under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals
Qualifications
Required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of one year of completed engineering coursework
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Passion for transportation infrastructure and engineering excellence
Preferred
- Coursework in Highway Design, Transportation Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Geotechnical Engineering, or related disciplines
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other engineering design software
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer is a plus
- Prior internship, co-op, or relevant project experience is a plus
- Strong presentation and technical documentation skills
Compensation
The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00 per hour . Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including education, qualifications, relevant experience, skills, and work location.
