About this role

Thompson Automotive Group | Raleigh, North Carolina
Buick GMC Cadillac

70 Years in Raleigh. Opportunities like this don't come open very often.

For 70 years , Thompson Automotive Group has served the Raleigh community, building our reputation one customer, one employee, and one relationship at a time.

Today, we're searching for an exceptional Automotive Service Manager to lead the service operation at our Raleigh Buick GMC Cadillac dealership.

This is one of the most important leadership positions in our dealership—and it's not a position we have available very often.

We aren't looking for someone to simply fill an open chair.

We're looking for someone who wants to build something.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Thompson has the customer base, vehicle sales volume, facilities, brands, market presence, and 70-year history in Raleigh to support one of the strongest service operations in the region.

The next Service Manager will have the support and authority to develop the team, recruit talent, improve processes, establish standards, and grow the operation.

Our philosophy is simple:

Our Employees. Our Customers. Our Results.

And the order matters.

We believe great customer experiences start with great employees. We want technicians and advisors who enjoy coming to work, managers who develop people, departments that work together, and accountability without destroying morale.

Build that environment, take care of our customers, and the financial results will follow.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Our ideal candidate is an experienced General Motors Service Manager with a demonstrated history of building teams and producing measurable results.

We will also consider an exceptional Assistant Service Manager, Service Lane Manager, or proven fixed-operations leader from a large, successful operation who is ready to lead their own department.

The right candidate will:

- Have significant dealership service-management experience, preferably with General Motors

- Have a proven ability to recruit, develop and retain technicians and service advisors

- Build a winning culture while maintaining clear accountability

- Understand RO count, HPRO, effective labor rate, productivity, proficiency, labor gross, expenses and net-to-gross

- Know how to grow a department through customer retention, capacity and operational performance

- Understand GM processes, warranty procedures and manufacturer expectations

- Be visible and involved in both the shop and service drive

- Work collaboratively with Parts, Sales, BDC and dealership leadership

- Develop employees and future leaders

- Make difficult personnel decisions when necessary

- Take ownership of problems and produce solutions

- Have measurable examples of teams and financial results they have personally improved

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

This isn't about chasing gross profit at the expense of employees, customers, or long-term profitability.

We want to build a service operation with:

More customers. More repair orders. More technician capacity. Better advisor development. Stronger retention. Better processes. Sustainable gross and net profitability.

Our objective isn't simply to complete today's repair order.

It's to earn the customer's next visit.

We want a Service Manager who understands both sides of the business: grow the operation and retain the money.

THE PERSON

You may already have a great job.

That's okay. In fact, we expect many of the best candidates will.

Maybe you're currently running a successful service department and looking for your next challenge. Maybe you're the #2 person in a large operation and know you're capable of running your own department.

Or maybe you've known the Thompson name for years but never thought there would be an opportunity like this.

Now there is.

We're looking for someone who understands the numbers but also understands the people behind them. Someone who walks the shop, knows their technicians and advisors, develops good employees, addresses poor performance, and creates an environment where people want to win together.

Most importantly:

People want to work for you.

If that's the reputation you've built in this business, we want to talk to you.

COMPENSATION & OPPORTUNITY

This is a major leadership position within Thompson Automotive Group, and the compensation package will reflect that.

We offer a highly competitive compensation package with significant performance-based earning potential tied to departmental growth and profitability.

For the right person, this is more than another Service Manager position. It's an opportunity to take ownership of a substantial operation, build your team, establish your culture, grow the business, and participate financially in the results you create.

Currently employed candidates are welcome to apply, and all inquiries will be handled discreetly.

70 years. One of Raleigh's established automotive names. One rare opportunity.

Thompson Automotive Group doesn't have leadership opportunities like this very often.

We're going to be selective. If you've built a reputation for developing people, retaining great employees, taking care of customers and producing results , we'd like to hear from you.
