SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and the Maintenance Manager, the Shop Foreman organizes, monitors, and supervises mechanics within the urban Fleet Maintenance Program relative to vehicle and equipment maintenance. The Shop Foreman will ensure work is conducted safely and in total compliance with the Fleet Maintenance Plan. The Shop Foreman is expected to personally perform preventive maintenance service and fleet repairs as needed to ensure all repairs and PMI schedules are performed within the established time frame and that an adequate number of vehicles are ready for service each day.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Through coordination with the Director of Maintenance and the Maintenance Manager, ensure daily work orders and PMls are appropriately assigned to mechanics at the proper level of
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of maintenance staff responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Through coordination with and approval of the Director of Maintenance and the Maintenance Manager, establish schedules and methods for providing vehicle and equipment maintenance services, identifying resources and resource needs, and properly allocating resources.
- Ensure adherence to the current Fleet Maintenance Plan, offering constructive recommendations for improvements to the plan when appropriate.
- Monitor all work to ensure adherence by all personnel regarding safety, preventive maintenance, daily fleet services, fleet cleaning and washing, and both scheduled and unscheduled repairs.
- Inspect work performed by mechanics to ensure all work is complete and performed in accordance with high fleet
- Oversee daily use of Maintenance Pro reports for scheduling repair work as needed, both immediate repairs and scheduling for future repairs.
- Oversee and ensure adherence to scheduled maintenance and repair of all shop equipment, including bus wash, water recycler, fueling equipment, air compressors, electrical generator, and small tools and
- Assist, as needed, in repair and maintenance of the Belton operation
- In coordination with other maintenance staff, support preventive maintenance and repairs of equipment scheduled to be performed by outside vendors, verifying work is done properly and correctly documented through work
- Participate in training maintenance staff, mentoring mechanics and other maintenance employees, and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- As required, work with the Director of Maintenance relative to employee conduct and corrective
- Work closely with maintenance staff , specifically mechanics and the Parts Manager , to ensure an appropriate supply of correct parts are available for prompt repairs and scheduled maintenance, developing PMI kits as appropriate .
- Ensure shop service bays are maintained in a very clean condition .
- Monitor and make effective recommendations as needed regarding specific services and frequencies related to preventive maintenance inspections.
- Lead and instruct mechanics in the repair and servicing of the fleet and its specialized components, including diesel engines, power train components, air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and understanding schematics.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with maintenance staff regarding fleet accessibility and service, ensuring an adequate number of vehicles is available for each service classification.
- Review maintenance work orders, defect reports, and similar documents and plan related work as needed .
- Through use of Fleet Maintenance Pro software, monitor history of individual vehicles with attention regarding warranty, callbacks, and mechanic performance .
- Become thoroughly familiar with Fleet Maintenance Pro software, which is used by HCTD to schedule all preventive service and to record all service, repairs, parts procurement and inventory, and other information related to the fleet maintenance program.
- Be familiar with funding sources' regulations, requirements, and procedures .
- Ensure all work is performed within the parameters of Hill Country Transit District policies and
- Maintain safety and security of the workplace while maintaining an acceptable appearance of facility and grounds .
- Perform related duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with driver training related to use of buses, in coordination with the Director of Maintenance and training staff .
- Under direction of and in coordination with the Director of Maintenance/Maintenance Manager, assist in and/or direct installation and repairs of accessories, such as MDT and security camera systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance/Maintenance Manager .
MINIMUN REQUIREMENTS (MANDATORY FOR HIRING)
- Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skills and knowledge for successful performance .
- Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (COL) Class B with Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement; or the ability to obtain Passenger Endorsement within 60 days of
- Must have a valid COL permit and have already successfully passed the following five (5) skills tests and be ready to take the road test and take Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement within 60 days of hire: General Knowledge Test; Passenger Endorsement Test; Air Brake Test; Pre-Trip Test; Special Requirement Test.
- Basic computer skills (must be familiar with good working knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word).
- Must pass a criminal record check .
