Title: Consulting Engineer – Civil/Structural
Location: Onsite – Surry, VA 23883
Duration: 1 year, with potential for extension
Per Diem: $100/day, up to $700/week
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Consulting Engineer – Civil/Structural to support major capital projects within a commercial nuclear power environment. The engineer will provide technical leadership and engineering support for complex projects involving piping replacements, structural modifications, heavy-load rigging, major equipment replacements, and other capital improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare nuclear engineering documents, including:
- Engineering design change packages
- 10 CFR 50.59 screenings and applicability reviews
- Engineering assessments and evaluations
- Support engineering activities related to:
- Piping replacements
- Floor loading evaluations
- Heavy-load and rigging activities
- Major equipment replacements
- Structural and building modifications
- Large capital projects
- Review and approve engineering procedures, drawings, calculations, contingency plans, and training materials.
- Perform design verifications and engineering reviews of design/engineering change packages.
- Provide field engineering support during project implementation and construction activities.
- Support the design and evaluation of piping supports and structural components.
- Perform and/or review civil/structural engineering analyses, evaluations, and component designs.
- Coordinate major engineering activities and project deliverables to meet long-term design and project schedules.
- Participate in project, outage, and engineering coordination meetings.
- Work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, operations, and project teams.
- Provide technical consultation and guidance on complex engineering problems and projects.
- Support project planning, technical decision-making, cost considerations, and engineering deliverables.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of design engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; Master's degree is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working in the commercial nuclear industry .
- Experience with nuclear engineering design change processes.
- Qualification or hands-on experience with the Standard Design Process (IP-ENG-001) .
- Experience developing equipment design and procurement specification documents.
- Strong understanding of civil/structural engineering principles and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 10 CFR 50.59 screening preparation and review .
- Experience designing or evaluating piping supports .
- Experience with rigging and heavy-load analysis .
- Experience with floor loading evaluations.
- Familiarity with standard civil/structural engineering codes.
- Experience developing equipment specifications.
- Experience supporting large, complex capital projects.
- Experience with major equipment replacement projects.
- Nuclear power plant outage or field implementation experience.
