Schedule: Full-time 40 hours, shift options of 5:00am-1:30pm, or 9:30am-6:00pm
Wage Range: $24.15 – $27.30 Hourly

Position Overview:
NARA is seeking a dependable and skilled Cook to prepare nutritious, homestyle meals in a residential treatment setting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys high-volume, batch cooking and takes pride in serving meals that bring comfort, consistency, and connection to others.
Working from established menus, the Cook prepares breakfast, lunch, and dinner service for residents, staff, and events while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and professionalism. What you will do:
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Cook homestyle, comfort-food menu items in large batches.
- Prepare approximately 75-100 meals per service.
- Assist with meal preparation for meetings, celebrations, and special events.
- Follow established menus and recipes developed by the Kitchen Manager.
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and storage standards.
- Assist with inventory, receiving deliveries, and kitchen organization.
- Complete opening and closing kitchen duties.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
- Build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
Location Information:
This position will be based at 17645 NW St. Helens Rd., Portland, OR 97231 through October 30, 2026 . Beginning November 1, 2026 , the position will relocate to 620 NE 2nd St., Gresham, OR 97030.
Qualifications
We would like to hear from people that have:
- Current Food Handler's Card
- Minimum one (1) year of cooking experience
- Knowledge of meal preparation, food safety, sanitation, and menu execution
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 80 pounds
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy kitchen environment
- Must pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.
- Must pass criminal background and DMV checks
Preferred:
- Experience cooking in:
Residential treatment facilities
- Hospitals
- School environments
- Catering
- Cafeteria-style
- Experience preparing meals in high-volume or batch-cooking settings.
- Familiarity with Native American and Alaska Native communities.
- Familiarity with NARA's mission and services.
