Accounting Manager
Sagis, PLLC is an entirely physician-led sub-specialty pathology group supported by a CAP-accredited histology lab located in the heart of Houston, Texas. Led by a team of board-certified pathologists, our lab is at the forefront of diagnostic science. We offer the highest quality services to physicians, physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals. One of our many strengths is we develop strong collaborative relationships with each of our referring physicians by offering accurate, prompt, and clear diagnoses in a personal and customized manner.
The Accounting Manager partners closely with the Controller and CFO to oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial reporting across a multi-entity healthcare organization. This role leads and develops accounting staff, drives continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes — including the use of AI and automation to modernize close, reconciliation, and reporting workflows — and serves as a key contributor to budgeting, variance analysis, and finance systems strategy. The role typically requires 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experience, deep knowledge of accounting operations, and a genuine curiosity for using technology to make the finance function faster and more accurate.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees and directs the day-to-day operations of the accounting team, acting as a key partner to the Controller and CFO on close, reporting, and process matters.
- Implements and trains accounting staff on accounting policies and procedures that adhere to governmental, financial, and tax regulations and comply with GAAP standards.
- Leads monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including GL accuracy, account reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting.
- Identifies opportunities to apply AI and automation to accounting workflows — such as reconciliations, variance analysis, and reporting — and partners with the team to design, test, and roll out these tools.
- Builds and maintains AI-supported dashboards and reporting tools that translate GL, budget, and operational data into clear, decision-ready views for leadership.
- Monitors and evaluates accounting systems and processes (ERP, budgeting, and payroll platforms) to identify areas for improvement and drive standardization.
- Supports staffing activities including interviewing candidates, conducting performance reviews, and setting employee goals.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with FP&A, HR/benefits, and operations teams on shared initiatives and reporting needs.
- Assists with the budget process, including variance analysis and clear, well-supported communication of budget drivers to finance leadership.
- Supports MSO/MSA structuring and related compliance work
- Communicates with vendors and maintains oversight of the accounts payable process, including preparing cash disbursement approvals.
