Job Purpose
The Warehouse Operative is responsible for the safe and efficient receiving, storage, movement, and distribution of materials, products, tools, and equipment within the warehouse. The role supports operational and customer requirements by ensuring inventory is handled accurately and stored appropriately while maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and store incoming materials, products, and equipment.
- Load and unload deliveries from trucks and other transport vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, and requisitions to determine material handling requirements.
- Pick, gather, and distribute materials to designated departments or locations as required.
- Transport materials between receiving, production, storage, and shipping areas.
- Sort and place materials on racks, shelves, or storage bins according to established procedures, product codes, size, type, style, or colour.
- Maintain accurate stock locations and support inventory control activities.
- Operate material handling equipment, including gas-powered and electric-powered forklift trucks.
- Move, stack, load, and unload raw materials, components, finished goods, and other products safely.
- Operate high-reach (Hi-Rise) equipment to place and retrieve materials from storage racks where required.
- Ensure all warehouse activities are completed in accordance with health, safety, and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with general warehouse duties as required.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience working within a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
- Good understanding of warehouse processes and inventory management.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, shipping documents, and production schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
Desirable
- Valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence/certification.
- Experience operating high-reach or Hi-Rise equipment.
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory tracking systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials safely.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and carry out manual handling activities throughout the shift.
Working Conditions
- Warehouse-based role.
- Regular use of forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- May involve shift work, overtime, and working to production or customer delivery deadlines.
