Project Management Intern

Project Management Internship Details

As a Project Management Intern, you'll work alongside experienced project managers supporting projects that help deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to our customers. You'll gain exposure to project planning, scheduling, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, project controls, and business operations while contributing to meaningful projects across AEP.
Day in the Life of an AEP Project Management Intern
As a Project Management Intern, you may:
- Assist project managers with planning, organizing, and coordinating project activities.
- Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, budgets, and status reports.
- Participate in project team meetings and document action items and key decisions.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, risks, and issues.
- Prepare presentations, dashboards, reports, and other project documentation.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing project data to support informed business decisions.
- Support communication among project team members, business partners, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Gain exposure to project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- Assist with procurement, contract, scheduling, or project controls activities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Learn and promote AEP's commitment to safety and operational excellence.
- Develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through project assignments and mentorship opportunities.
Basic Qualifications
Required
- Currently pursuing an associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Must have completed at least your freshman year.
- Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
- This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
Preferred
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Interest in project management, utility operations, business processes, construction, technology, or energy infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership through academic, extracurricular, or work experiences.

Where You'll Work
Assignments may take place in office settings, operational facilities, project sites, or construction environments, depending on business needs and internship placement. Interns will gain exposure to the broad range of projects that support AEP's generation, transmission, distribution, and corporate operations.
