JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
This position is part of a work group within Tax dedicated to Retail and Wholesale Regulatory filings, Testimony, Discovery Requests for Information, Regulatory Tax Strategy, and IRS/FERC Regulatory Accounting Requirements. The role significantly contributes to the modernization of tax ‑ data processes through automation, advanced analytics, and responsible use of AI. The position supports the design, development, and deployment of technology solutions that enhance accuracy, reduce cycle time, strengthen controls, and improve scalability across regulatory tax workflows.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to automated workflows for ADIT, cost ‑ of ‑ service tax calculations, and per ‑ book/regulatory reconciliations.
- Evaluate changes in federal/state tax codes, FERC ratemaking, and regulatory accounting guidance, and assist in implementing both tax and system/process changes.
- Collaborate with Regulatory Filing Teams, Income Tax Accounting, Depreciation, and Legal to execute regulatory tax strategy and integrate technology ‑ enabled improvements across processes.
- Prepare datasets, and audit ‑ ready documentation using enhanced digital tools and structured data models.
- Participate in tax strategy development with a focus on identifying automation opportunities that improve efficiency and regulatory consistency.
- Ensure accurate financial accounting and regulatory reporting through both manual and system ‑ driven validation controls.
- Support technology ‑ enabled responses to discovery and RFI requests (e.g., automated data pulls, structured data exports).
- Design, deploy, and enhance automation scripts, data pipelines, and digital workflows using tools such as Python, ASI, Power BI, and AI ‑ based review assistants.
- Identify and implement opportunities to modernize tax data intake, reconciliation, and validation processes using machine learning, pattern ‑ detection, large language models, and API ‑ connected financial systems (where appropriate and compliant).
- Contribute to governance standards for tax data quality, tax ‑ technology integrations, and internal controls related to automated tax calculations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience Requirements
• Tax Specialist: 0–3 years in tax, accounting, automation, or analytics.
• Tax Specialist, Sr: 4+ years tax/accounting experience; experience with data tools preferred.
• Tax Specialist, Sr Lead: 6+ years including process improvement or technology implementation.
• Tax Specialist, Sr Staff: 8+ years with demonstrated leadership in tax technology, automation, or regulatory reporting modernization.
Certificates / Licenses
• CPA or CMI preferred.
• Certifications in automation, analytics, or relevant technology are a plus.
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS (TECHNOLOGY, AI, AND TAX DATA)
Technical & Automation Skills
• Python for data transformation, tax ‑ model automation, and structured data processing.
• ASI for workflow automation, ETL, data cleansing, and model orchestration.
• Power BI for dashboards, regulatory analytics, trend analysis, and data ‑ quality controls.
• SQL or similar query capabilities for extracting and structuring ERP and financial system data.
• Experience with APIs or automated data feeds between tax systems and source ledgers.
• Familiarity with LLMs and AI ‑ assisted review tools for document synthesis, variance detection, and regulatory support.
• Understanding of automation governance, data security, audit trails, and SOX ‑ compliant digital processes.
