Students or recent graduates of college, university, or other accredited academic programs, pursuing diplomas or degrees (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD) in any field. Assists in various tasks aligned with their field of study, including research, collaboration on team initiatives and projects, problem-solving, and creative thinking to gain hands-on experience and develop professional skills. Includes internships, research roles, visiting scholar positions, or other program-related opportunities.

Management Level Definition:

We are seeking Technical Support Engineer Interns to join the Wireless Technical Support organization. The interns will support customers, partners, and internal teams by assisting with the investigation, troubleshooting, and documentation of wireless networking issues related to Mist cloud-managed solutions, wireless access points, and associated technologies.

The ideal candidate is a currently enrolled university student in a technical degree program who has a strong interest in networking, cloud technologies, troubleshooting, and customer support.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist Technical Support Engineers with the analysis and troubleshooting of wireless networking incidents.
- Support the investigation of issues related to wireless access points, cloud-managed networking platforms, client connectivity, authentication, and network performance.
- Collect and review technical information, including: Device and client logs.
- Event timelines.
- Configuration details.
- Packet captures and basic network traces.
- Connectivity and performance data.

- Help identify potential causes of wireless problems, including coverage, interference, roaming, authentication, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, and connectivity issues.
- Assist with the reproduction of reported problems in laboratory or simulated environments.
- Perform basic configuration reviews and validation of wireless and network settings.
- Learn to use technical support tools, diagnostic utilities, dashboards, and knowledge bases.
- Participate in customer case reviews, team meetings, training sessions, and technical discussions.
- Document troubleshooting steps, findings, and potential solutions accurately.
- Contribute to internal technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge-base articles.
- Escalate complex or unresolved technical issues to senior engineers with complete and organized information.
- Follow established support processes, quality standards, and communication guidelines.
- Complete assigned learning activities and technical projects in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Education and Experience

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science.
- Computer Engineering.
- Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Information Technology.
- Telecommunications.
- Networking or a related technical field.

- Basic understanding of computer networks and Internet technologies.
- Academic, laboratory, personal, or project experience with networking is desirable.
- Previous professional experience is not required.
- Experience with wireless networking, cloud platforms, Linux, scripting, or technical support is a plus.

Required Knowledge and Skills

- Basic understanding of networking concepts, including: Ethernet and wireless networking.
- IPv4 and IPv6 fundamentals.
- TCP/IP.
- DNS and DHCP.
- VLANs and basic switching.
- Subnets and default gateways.
- Authentication and access control concepts.

- Basic understanding of Wi-Fi concepts, such as: SSIDs.
- 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz wireless bands.
- Channels and channel utilization.
- Signal strength and interference.
- Roaming and client connectivity.

- Basic familiarity with troubleshooting methodologies and logical problem solving.
- Basic knowledge of command-line tools such as ping, traceroute, nslookup, or equivalent utilities.
- Basic programming or scripting knowledge, preferably Python, is desirable.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher, particularly in written and spoken technical communication.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members and document technical information.
- Strong interest in networking, wireless technologies, cloud solutions, and customer support.
- Collaborative, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to request guidance.

Preferred Qualifications

- Academic coursework or projects involving computer networks, wireless communications, cloud computing, or cybersecurity.
- Familiarity with wireless access points, WLAN controllers, cloud-managed networking, or network monitoring tools.
- Exposure to Wi-Fi standards, including 802.11 technologies.
- Basic knowledge of network authentication concepts such as: WPA2/WPA3.
- 802.1X.
- RADIUS.
- Captive portals.

- Familiarity with packet analysis tools such as Wireshark.
- Basic understanding of Linux operating systems.
- Coursework or hands-on experience with Python, APIs, or automation.
- Entry-level networking certifications, such as Network+, CCNA, or equivalent, are desirable but not required.

Work Model and Schedule

- Part-time internship: 20 hours per week.
- Hybrid work model.
- Two days per week onsite, with the remaining hours performed remotely according to business and team requirements.
- Participation in product-specific training is required.
- The intern must be able to balance work commitments with university studies.

Impact/Scope:

- University students actively enrolled in a university/college/institution pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a technical area of study, and who typically works during school breaks and then returns to their university. While this applies to most interns, there may be opportunities for full-time students to work as part-time interns during the school year in some countries.
