Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Software – UI Automated Test Lead (26-452) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
This position is for the User Interface Automated Test Lead on the C2BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for software development in Java and Python for the C2BMC User Interface (UI). Under minimal direction, the Automated Test Lead will design and implement an automated testing framework for the suite of C2BMC UI products and will lead UI automation efforts across the capability.
The successful candidate must be skilled in translating l egacy code to modern architecture , providing technical leadership across UI test and development, and mentoring junior engineers. The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently in a highly dynamic environment.
Essential Functions:
- Design, implement, and maintain a UI automated testing framework for C2BMC User Interface products
- Develop and enhance UI software in Java and Python , including automation, test harnesses , and UI components
- Translate legacy code into modern architecture, improving maintainability, performance, and testability
- Develop automated test cases for UI using tools such as Sikuli, integrating them into program workflows
- Lead development efforts within UI capabilities, setting technical direction and best practices for UI automation and development
- Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on UI development, automated testing, and tool usage
- Use common software development and management tools (e.g., GitLab, Confluence, JIRA ) to plan, track, and deliver work
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and operate in a highly dynamic environment, communicating status and risks clearly
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
- Applicants must have a current, active Government-Issued 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Experience with User Interface Automated Testing , including design and execution of automated UI test cases
- User Interface development experience with Java and Python
- Experience developing automated test cases with Sikuli for UI automation
- Experience with GitLab for source control, CI , and collaboration
- Experience leading development efforts within User Interface capabilities, providing technical direction and oversight
- Experience mentoring junior engineers on UI development and automation practices
- Use of common software development and management tools such as Confluence and JIRA
- Software engineering and software development background with strong Java experience, including design, implementation, debugging, and maintenance of Java‑based applications

- Ability to work independently and take ownership of UI automation and development tasks
- Ability to work effectively in a highly dynamic environment, managing changing priorities and requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Tools & Frameworks
- Familiarity with Eclipse, Maven, Gradle, ClearCase, and Jenkins
- Experience generating pipelines with Jenkins in support of CI/CD workflows
- Experience with NASA WorldWind or similar visualization frameworks
Domain & Process
- Experience within the Missile Defense Domain
- Experience with Scrum-Agile-based development
- Familiarity with Continuous Integration / Continuous Development ( CI/CD ) frameworks and practices
- Experience working in an Agile development environment (highly desired)
- Experience doing automated testing for User Interface (highly desired)

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
