Your Impact

The Playhouse Workshop and Warehouse Manager plays a key role in advancing Habitat Greater San Francisco's mission by leading our Playhouse Build Program, supporting hands-on skills training for Habitat’s construction program, and maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient warehouse operation.

This position creates meaningful volunteer and corporate engagement experiences through hands-on playhouse build events that connect participants to Habitat's affordable housing mission. The Manager leads and hosts playhouse build events, trains and guides volunteers, and ensures every participant has a safe, rewarding, and fun experience while constructing high-quality playhouses for local families and community partners. The Manager also supports Habitat’s new home construction by providing hands-on skills training to candidate homebuyers and regular volunteers, helping participants develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to contribute on Habitat construction sites and to successfully maintain their homes.

Behind the scenes, the Manager oversees playhouse kit production, coordinates volunteers in the workshop, and maintains warehouse operations, including inventory management, deliveries, facility upkeep, vehicle maintenance, and implementation of Habitat's safety program. The Manager works closely with Construction staff to help coordinate training, prepare materials and tools, and support a consistent and positive learning experience for volunteers and candidate homebuyers.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, has basic carpentry and workshop experience, takes initiative, and is passionate about creating positive volunteer experiences. By delivering exceptional events, developing participants' construction skills, and maintaining efficient operations, the Playhouse Workshop and Warehouse Manager helps build community support and generate critical resources for Habitat's work.

Primary Responsibilities

Playhouse Program Leadership and Workshop Operations (50%)

- Lead and host playhouse build events for corporate sponsors, community groups, and volunteers.

- Collaborate with Fund Development and Volunteer Services teams to schedule playhouse build events.

- Create a safe, organized, engaging, and enjoyable experience for all event participants.

- Train volunteers in basic carpentry tasks and proper tool use.

- Serve as Habitat's on-site representative, ensuring volunteers understand and connect with Habitat's mission.

- Pre-fabricate playhouse components and maintain an inventory of completed kits ready for build events.

- Coordinate workshop volunteers to support playhouse production and program goals.

- Maintain workshop equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.

- Ensure workshop spaces remain clean, organized, and safe.

Volunteer Leadership and Safety (30%)

- Partner with the Volunteer Services team to recruit, schedule, and coordinate regular workshop volunteers.

- Supervise all workshop volunteers, providing training, coaching, and encouragement to volunteers of varying skill levels.

- Support home construction activities by providing in-depth skills training to candidate homebuyers and regular volunteers in the warehouse.

- Collaborate with construction project teams to schedule skills trainings and ensure materials and tools are prepared and ready for each training.

- Model and enforce Habitat's safety culture and safe work practices.

- Conduct safety orientations and ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.

- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.

- Represent Habitat professionally with candidate homebuyers, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and community partners.

- Build positive relationships with corporate sponsors and community partners to foster repeat volunteer engagement and support Habitat's mission.

- Recognize and respond effectively to unexpected challenges while maintaining a positive attitude and focus on solutions.

Warehouse Management and Operational Support (15%)

- Oversee day-to-day warehouse operations, ensuring inventory accuracy, organization, safety compliance, and operational efficiency.

- Coordinate logistics and material preparation for playhouse build events.

- Schedule construction deliveries and warehouse activities to support Habitat operations and avoid conflicts with volunteer events.

- Manage inventories of tools, construction materials, donated products, and warehouse supplies.

- Maintain tool checkout systems and inventory records.

- Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections for company vehicles and equipment.

- Manage vendor and contractor access for facility maintenance, cleaning, pest control, and other warehouse services.

- Liaise with the Director of HR/Ops and IT to ensure warehouse office technology, equipment, and systems are maintained and operating effectively.

- Help troubleshoot day-to-day technology issues within the warehouse office and coordinate with internal staff or vendors to resolve them promptly.

- Participate in regular planning and coordination meetings with Habitat staff and provide updates on warehouse operations, deliveries, maintenance activities, and upcoming events.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience managing construction, home repair, volunteer engagement, community programs, or related operational initiatives

- 3+ years of experience with basic carpentry, woodworking, workshop construction practices, and jobsite safety, with the ability to safely operate and oversee the use of common tools and equipment.

- Ability to safely operate and maintain common carpentry tools, including drills, circular saws, chop saws, jigsaws, table saws, and routers.

- Experience providing hands-on instruction, facilitating safety orientations, and leading groups of 10–100 volunteers in a construction or community-based setting.

- Exceptional communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including volunteers, staff, homeowners, sponsors, vendors, and community partners.

- Relationship-focused leader who builds trust, fosters collaboration, and creates welcoming, inclusive experiences aligned with organizational values for candidate homebuyers, volunteers, and community partners

- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

- Must be able to work a Monday - Friday schedule (with occasional evenings)

- Valid CA driver license, clean driving record, and access to personal vehicle required. Must be able to travel as need through the tri-county service area ( SF, Marin, San Mateo) Must be comfortable driving a large Sprinter van

- Must be able to travel within HGSF’s tri-county service area ( SF, Marin, San Mateo)

- Must be able to pass background check ( In accordance with state and county law: convictions do not necessarily rule out employment, it depends on the nature and severity of the conviction and is evaluated on a case by case basis, check is conducted on last 7 years only.)

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience leading volunteer groups or community engagement events.

- Experience coordinating corporate volunteer programs.

- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

- Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization

Work Environment

This job operates in a warehouse environment. This role routinely uses carpentry tools and occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina, and the ability to lift and carry at least 60 pounds, go up and down stairs and ladders, and endure the full workday on their feet with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to frequently communicate in English (verbal), including hazard communication, giving and receiving trainings, working as part of a team, and supporting volunteers. Must be able to recognize and respond to potential hazards based on both visual and auditory warnings systems.

Compensation for this role is competitive, DOE.
