Job Summary
TRANSIT ENFORCEMENT OFFICER or SECURITY OFFICER:
Reporting to the Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safety and security of all City of Mississauga transit system properties or all City of Mississauga facilities/properties while maintaining confidentiality, exercising discretion, and ensuring a high level of quality and integrity.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to meet physical demands of the job such as: sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, climbing, lifting, foot action, push/pull, gripping, fine finger movements, using extremity motion such as reaching (vertical/horizontal), bending/twisting of back, twisting/turning of neck on patrol; sensory/perceptual demands along with good concentration, attention to detail and ability to deal with frequent exposure to emotionally stressful situations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional Customer Service to patrons and staff
- Assist in emergency response, respond to urgent and potentially volatile situations, investigate suspicious activity, provide access to security sensitive areas to authorized individuals; responding to all access and environment alarms, removing unauthorized persons from City property and issue fines and or Trespass Cautions to violators in accordance with the Trespass to Property Act and relevant City of Mississauga By-Laws
- Exercising the powers of arrest and detention
- Identifying hazardous situations which could jeopardize the public and staff safety: conducting visual checks, investigating personal and property related incidents; assisting the public and staff in resolving situations by offering advice and guidance
- Perform emergency first aid services to public and staff as necessary
- Investigate and attend court on by-law matters when required
- Assist team members in dealing with volatile situations, assist and participate in training needs as assigned
- Communicate effectively by generating security reports and emails for all incidents in accordance with policies and procedures
Security Officers:
- Recommend and initiate the removal of unauthorized vehicles when circumstance warrant such actions; directing traffic on City property as required
- Conducting property patrols of all City facilities in accordance with defined procedures
- Operating in control room; entering/maintaining/collecting information, conducting radio checks frequently
Transit Enforcement Officers :
- Removing unauthorized persons from Transit property and issues fines and or Trespass cautions to violators in accordance with the Trespass to Property Act and City of Mississauga Transit By-Law 425-03
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Law and Security, Police Sciences/Management or related discipline with a minimum two years of security related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in a municipal environment
- Demonstrated experience dealing with the public in a position which requires excellence in customer service, problem-solving and conflict-resolution
- Able to complete First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience monitoring and responding to alarms in a dispatch environment, control room, mobile and foot patrol is preferred
- Ability to identify and deal with potentially volatile situations independently
- Proven ability to understand, speak and write in English in order to communicate effectively with the public and to report on incidents involving safety and/or service
- Previous experience with CCTV systems, security access systems, security and fire alarm systems for large buildings is an asset
- Must have the ability to interpret and apply the Criminal Code of Canada and Trespass To Property Act; familiarity with City of Mississauga's by-laws is considered an asset
- Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted Class "G" Driver's License or equivalent, with a Driver's Abstract that has no more than 5 demerit points
- Must successfully complete all required training for the position including physical demands
- Flexible to work a variety of shifts up to 12 hours including days, afternoons, evenings and weekends, holidays, and may involve working alone
- Officers are expected to perform their duties in all types of inclement weather
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 80,567.00 - $ 107,426.00
