About this role

As the Director of Applied AI Research & Future of Work, you will architect Google’s strategic narratives and empirical research agenda on how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies reshape work, skills, and organizational structures. Leveraging deep data and telemetry across Google’s Product Areas—including Cloud, Gemini, Workspace, and DeepMind—you will lead rigorous, longitudinal applied research on changing role dynamics, leadership requirements, and corporate culture.

You will establish cross-functional research initiatives across Google Cloud, DeepMind, and Google Research, while cultivating strong partnerships with academic institutions and economists. Additionally, you will drive global thought leadership by translating applied research into enterprise customer collaborations and executive forums.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $262000 - $364000 (USD) + 30% bonus target + equity + benefits

Minimum qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or social science field (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Psychology), or equivalent practical experience.

- 15 years of professional experience, or 13 years with an advanced degree.

- 7 years of experience leading and scaling applied-research or analytics teams.

- Experience translating technical findings into narratives for executive audiences.

Preferred qualifications:

- Master’s degree or PhD in Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, STEM, or Organizational Psychology.

- Experience utilizing large-scale product telemetry and behavioral datasets to uncover organizational trends.

- Experience advising senior executives on AI-driven organizational design and future-of-work strategy.

- Deep familiarity with modern generative AI architectures, agentic systems, and Google’s product ecosystem.

- Track record of publishing or leading applied research on AI adoption, labor economics, or workforce transformation.

- Design and execute longitudinal, data-backed research initiatives evaluating the economic, behavioral, and organizational impacts of applied AI and agentic workflows.

- Translate empirical research findings into actionable workforce strategies, leadership models, and executive frameworks for Google leadership and enterprise customer engagements.

- Lead cross-functional research partnerships across Google Research, DeepMind, Cloud, and academic economists to co-author and publish pioneering workplace studies.
