Position Summary:

The Systems Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical building infrastructure across a multi-building facility. This position performs hands-on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, testing, and repair of complex mechanical and electrical systems, life safety systems, emergency power systems, and other critical facility equipment.
Working as part of the Facilities Systems team, the Systems Technician helps ensure building systems remain operational, compliant, and properly documented. This role works closely with Facilities leadership, clinical staff, contractors, and other maintenance personnel to resolve issues, minimize disruptions to building operations, and support a safe environment.
The ideal candidate is technically skilled, safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong troubleshooting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to accurately document work is important to success in this role.

What You'll Do:
- Inspect, test, diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and fire/life safety systems using a variety of tools and testing instruments.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, circuits, controls, motors, motor starters, transformers, switchgear, control switches, relays, and related components.
- Install and maintain electrical panels, disconnects, lighting, devices, motors, control circuits, transformers, grounding systems, intrusion alarm systems, battery banks, battery chargers, and related electrical equipment.
- Perform switchgear maintenance, including troubleshooting circuits and replacing components such as meters, surge protectors, relays, and control switches.
- Calculate electrical power requirements, including conductor sizing, protective devices, and physical protection requirements.
- Service and maintain battery systems, including lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, and lead-calcium batteries.
- Operate and maintain medium-voltage emergency power systems, including emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, and medium-voltage electrical distribution switchgear.
- Maintain and troubleshoot building fire detection and fire suppression systems, including fire pumps, pre-action and dry suppression systems, and AFFF helipad foam suppression systems.
- Operate and maintain multi-building fire sprinkler and suppression systems.
- Operate and maintain Swiss log tube transport systems, including blowers, transfer units, and stations throughout a multi-building system.
- Work with and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and non-destructive testing as required.
- Identify, document, and report equipment deficiencies and system issues through computer-based and handwritten records.
- Maintain accurate work records and documentation in the designated CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and other technical documentation related to system layout, location, and operation.
- Support required testing, inspections, and documentation for regulatory and accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission and State Fire Marshal requirements.
- Follow applicable safety procedures, building codes, life safety requirements, and established work practices.
- Participate in required training and obtain manufacturer or factory certifications for specialized systems as needed.
- Communicate effectively with Facilities leadership, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding work performed, system status, and identified issues.
- Troubleshoot problems, analyze information, identify solutions, and work collaboratively with others to resolve technical issues.
- Coordinate with other departments and outside contractors as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1–5 years of experience or working knowledge in building maintenance, electrical systems, and/or fire and life safety systems.
- Working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
- Ability to identify and distinguish wiring colors and codes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document work, maintenance activities, testing, and incidents.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot technical issues, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members, leadership, customers, and contractors.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required safety certifications.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position in a variety of work environments.
- English language proficiency sufficient to perform essential job functions, including communication, collaboration, and documentation.
- Valid driver's license meeting P1 Service requirements and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid trade license in a relevant discipline such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems.
- Trade-specific certifications related to electrical, mechanical, fire/life safety, or other areas of expertise.
- Experience using CMMS software for maintenance work management and documentation.
- Familiarity with The Joint Commission standards, particularly requirements related to the Physical Environment.
- Experience working with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
- Experience working with emergency power systems, switchgear, fire detection/suppression systems, or other critical facility infrastructure.
Work Schedule & Travel
This is a full-time position . The schedule may include weekends, early mornings, evenings, and on-call responsibilities based on business and facility needs.
