About this role
The Laboratory Technologist III, iPSC & Advanced Cellular Models independently performs and monitors developing manual and automated workflows supporting iPSC expansion, differentiation, advanced cellular models, and associated quality-control activities. As an advanced technical resource, this role operates and troubleshoots sophisticated laboratory equipment, reviews process and quality data, maintains accurate operational documentation, trains colleagues, and supports process improvement and technology-transfer activities.
Working closely with scientists, engineers, quality partners, and operations colleagues, the Laboratory Technologist III helps maintain safe, reproducible, documented, and efficient laboratory operations. Flexibility for evening, weekend, or holiday shifts may be required based on project and laboratory operational needs.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Perform and monitor developing manual and automated workflows for iPSC expansion, cryopreservation and recovery, differentiation, advanced cellular models, and associated quality-control activities.
- Operate, maintain, and perform advanced troubleshooting on assigned laboratory automation, liquid handlers, imaging systems, cell counters, incubators, cryogenic storage equipment, and other laboratory instrumentation; coordinate service or escalation as needed.
- Review batch, process, and quality data; recognize deviations, adverse trends, or workflow failures; accurately document issues; and recommend corrective or preventive actions within the scope of the role.
- Manage assigned work queues and maintain the readiness of materials, reagents, controls, cell banks, inventories, and equipment needed for safe and efficient execution.
- Execute transferred development protocols and provide structured feedback regarding reproducibility, cycle time, automation compatibility, failure modes, training needs, and readiness for routine use.
- Write, review, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, batch records, forms, logs, training materials, and other controlled operational documents.
- Train and cross-train colleagues, demonstrate advanced laboratory techniques, assess readiness on assigned procedures, and serve as a technical resource without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Collaborate with scientists, automation and software engineers, quality partners, and operations staff to troubleshoot workflows, evaluate proposed equipment or process changes, and implement approved improvements.
- Lead or participate in process-improvement, validation, qualification, deviation-investigation, and special projects within assigned areas.
- Follow applicable requirements for laboratory safety, aseptic technique, data integrity, document control, and quality systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced hands-on proficiency in mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
- Direct experience with iPSC culture, cryopreservation and recovery, differentiation, 3D culture, organoids, assembloids, or related advanced cellular models is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute standardized laboratory workflows, operate sophisticated equipment, maintain accurate records, and consistently meet quality and productivity expectations.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting one or more types of laboratory automation, liquid-handling equipment, high-throughput cell-culture systems, imaging platforms, or automated data-capture systems.
- Ability to evaluate process and quality data, recognize deviations or trends, investigate routine failure modes, and communicate evidence-based recommendations.
- Experience writing or revising SOPs, work instructions, batch records, logs, or training materials. Experience working in a document-controlled or quality-system environment is preferred.
- Ability to train and support colleagues, explain technical concepts clearly, coordinate work across teams, and contribute positively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and computer skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, data integrity, reproducibility, continuous improvement, customer needs, and responsible stewardship of resources.
