About this role
In collaboration with head coach and athletic administrative staff, the Assistant Coach of Women’s Tennis plans practices to teach, encourage, and develop student athlete skills and tennis techniques. The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting student-athletes’ wellbeing and holistic development and teaches one to two physical education courses annually. The position is also responsible for identifying and recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, scouting opponents, managing team travel, and organizing community service activities. The Assistant Coach will demonstrate commitment to the W&L philosophy by emphasizing academic priorities for student-athletes as well as the importance of good citizenship on and off the court.

Essential Functions:
- Coaches and demonstrates techniques to team members individually and in groups. Manages designated skill development areas and techniques. Develops and recommends strategy and teaches advanced skills and techniques.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises student athlete practice sessions and individual sessions in accordance with the head coach and within department and university regulations.
- Teaches one to two Physical Education courses annually as required for undergraduate student graduation criteria. May stand in as needed when requested by Head Coach or Director of Physical Education.
- Identifies quality prospective student-athletes, travels to recruiting events, organizes campus visits, and ensures timely submission of top recruits’ academic records for admissions.
- Communicates effectively with head coach, administration, and the team about program goals, status, and needs.
- Effectively works with head coach in compliance with all University, ODAC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Supports head coach with student-athlete development, coordination of facility use and equipment needs, and planning team travel logistics, which could include lodging, transportation, and meal arrangements, in accordance with budgetary parameters for the women’s tennis program.
- Maintains social media presence for the program.
- Serves as an event manager for home contests.
- Other related duties as assigned by the head coach.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree and collegiate competitive experience in tennis is required.
- Must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student-athletes as well as the importance of good citizenship on and off the playing field.
- Role models appropriate behavior and conduct to support the image and reputation of the athletics program.
- Strong understanding of various coaching techniques and a willingness to learn new methods of instruction.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Master's degree and coaching experience in collegiate women’s tennis is preferred.

- This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with the Clery Act. This position is required to report Clery qualifying crimes to the Department of Public Safety and complete annual training about your reporting responsibilities under the law.


Physical Requirements:
- Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
Working Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
Types of Work: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Compensation:
The expected annual salary for this posting is between $38,000 - $43,000. Offers are based on factors such as qualifications, relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market and organizational considerations.
