Job Description
Position Summary
Responsible for providing spiritual and pastoral care to residents, their families, and staff. Provides a variety of supports and spiritual growth opportunities and serves as a visible presence of God’s love and grace.
Essential Duties
- Assesses needs of pastoral care for residents and their family members and coordinates resources best serve the needs of the community.
- May prepare and lead worship services, Bible Studies, and similar activities.
- Works with Life Enrichment to provide holistic support for residents.
- Occasionally, meets with community leadership toward ensuring support for community priorities.
- Plan and lead memorial/funeral services.
- Provide supportive pastoral counseling to residents.
- May provide support and pastoral counseling to family member or staff as work schedule allows.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required (preference for ministry, theology, or similar field).
- At least 1 year experience in pastoral care or ministry working with senior adults.
- Must maintain a commitment to Christian teachings including the Apostles Creed, similar ethical principles, and pastoral care practices consistent with the organization’s mission and values.
- Must be able to authentically represent the Christian faith in word, action, and pastoral presence.
- While grounded in Christian faith, the Chaplain must also be able to serve a religiously diverse resident population with respect, compassion, and inclusivity.
- Excellent communication skills – the ability to effectively listen, teach, and guide with compassion.
- Clinical Pastoral Education, four (4) units preferred.
- Comfortable with use of computers and business office technology - Microsoft suite, Teams, etc.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Less than 24 hours per week.
- Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Sits, stands, bends, and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Interacts with residents, family members, visitors frequently.
