Description
Pay: Approximately $40–$55 per hour (depending on experience and fit)
We’re looking for a skilled, dependable Mobile Diesel Technician to maintain and repair our fleet of VanHool, TEMSA, MCI and other motorcoaches, along with company support vehicles.
This is a fun, flexible and rewarding opportunity for a maintenance professional who enjoys independence, takes pride in their work and wants to grow with a company. As our Philadelphia and Long Island shops are built, this position offers a potential path into regional maintenance leadership.
The company provides an outfitted service truck and larger service equipment. Work will primarily take place outdoors at our Philadelphia lot while the shop is under construction, so you must be comfortable and effective in a mobile service environment.
Scheduling & Travel
Our approach to flexibility is simple: you help us, and we help you. Learn the fleet’s operating schedule, coordinate with the team and build a work schedule around both our maintenance needs and your own needs. This requires communication, reliability and the judgment to keep work on track. Occasional evenings or weekends may be needed to support operations. Travel to our Long Island location is expected once or twice per month, typically for one to two days per visit, to perform mobile service work and coach inspections.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, HVAC and other vehicle components.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs to keep the fleet safe, reliable and ready for service.
- Respond to breakdowns, communicate findings clearly and recognize when repairs require additional equipment or shop support.
- Coordinate with operations and maintenance leadership to prioritize work around vehicle availability and business needs.
- Accurately document inspections, diagnostics, repairs, labor and parts in our fleet maintenance system.
- Identify safety concerns promptly and communicate vehicle status and restrictions before equipment returns to service.
- Take responsibility for the assigned service truck, company tools, equipment and parts inventory, keeping them secure, organized and properly maintained.
- Maintain a safe work area and follow proper lifting, vehicle-support and fluid-handling procedures.
- Support scheduled service trips to our Long Island location.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing diesel buses, motorcoaches or heavy-duty trucks.
- Strong diagnostic skills, including electrical troubleshooting and the use of diagnostic software and service information.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities and follow repairs through to completion.
- Reliable attendance, sound judgment and clear communication.
- A professional attitude, ownership of your work and a willingness to contribute as the operation grows.
- Flexibility to coordinate your schedule with fleet availability and changing business needs.
- Your own basic hand tools.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the role, including outdoor work, accessing vehicle components and handling tools and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable for operating a company service truck.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Van Hool, TEMSA, MCI and other motorcoach makes.
- Familiarity with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Volvo and other diesel engine platforms.
- Experience with Allison and other heavy-duty transmissions, diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems, coach HVAC, air brakes and vehicle electrical systems.
- CDL with appropriate endorsements.
- Relevant ASE certifications, inspection qualifications or HVAC refrigerant certification.
