What role you will play on our team
Join the Baytown Economics team and play a key role in guiding refinery and chemicals production planning and economic optimization. As an Economist, you will provide strategic insight to enhance site profitability through economic analysis, coordination, and business planning. You will collaborate across Refining, Olefins, Chemicals, Supply & Trading, and corporate stakeholders to identify opportunities, provide economic operating signals, and support long-term decision making. This job is within ExxonMobil Global Operations with opportunities to collaborate across global teams, central headquarters, and other manufacturing sites. Operations can be both challenging and rewarding, and we are looking for motivated individuals interested in long-term careers.
What you will do
- Provide overall guidance on economic operating signals for the Baytown area and support optimization of integrated manufacturing operations.
- Identify, evaluate, and drive near-term business opportunities while communicating longer-term opportunities, risks, and strategic challenges.
- Collaborate with Refinery, Olefins Plant, Chemical Plant, and business stakeholders to promote consistency in economic strategies and circuit model optimization. This includes influencing maintenance timing and pairings with Operations teams to maximize margin.
- Complete monthly 90-Day Run Plan assessments to highlight profitability drivers, economic signposts, and key operational focus areas. Share this with upline management to align on the key profitability items.
- Generate economic and PIMS analysis to support turnarounds, major projects, capacity exception reviews, and investment opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to peers while strengthening economics capabilities across the organization.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is preferred - applicant must demonstrate a solid understanding of Manufacturing Processes and information systems
- Knowledgeable of Chemicals or Refining plant operations, process flows, and product economics with target 6-15 years site experience
- Demonstrated capability with Aspen Unified Planning, Aspen PIMS, or equivalent economic LP modeling software used to develop Production Plans for manufacturing sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and drive business opportunities that improve profitability and operational performance.
- Experience supporting annual business planning, turnaround evaluations, capital project economics, or related economic optimization activities.
- Knowledge of Supply and Trading practices and/or project development processes is preferred.
- In addition to strong technical background in process flows and financial close, successful candidates will demonstrate innovative thinking, strong initiative, and exemplary communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with peers, across organizational boundaries, and in diverse and globally dispersed teams
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders and be able to influence and promote change to achieve desired results with no direct authority
