This position performs various tasks independently or in coordination with a tradesman. Key responsibilities include semi-skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing and construction functions, as well as maintenance and preventive maintenance functions. Tasks may be assigned depending on the workers training and skill capabilities. Independent judgment is required for handling details of each job.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Maintain a safe and compliant healthcare environment by following emergency, fire, evacuation, PPE, lockout/tagout, and other established safety procedures; identify and address potential environmental and equipment hazards.

- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and installation of designated facility systems and equipment in accordance with manufacturer, organizational, and regulatory standards.

- Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC maintenance; replace HVAC filters, change medical compressed gas cylinders, and complete more complex work under the direction of appropriate skilled trades staff.

- Support Facilities operations by maintaining tools, equipment, and inventory; assembling and moving furniture and fixtures; assisting departmental teammates; and accurately documenting maintenance activities through the hospital work order/information system.

- Participate in Facilities emergency response and on-call coverage as required, including responding to unscheduled emergencies and working additional or adjusted hours when necessary to support operational needs.

Required Skills and Experience:

- HS Diploma or equivalent experience

- The candidate should have a minimum of one year experience as a handyman helper or laborer in mechanical or construction trades. This includes the ability to perform all types of maintenance and minor construction functions and should understand the terminology.

Physical Requirements:

- This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requirements also include climbing, bending, and the ability to get into tight spaces while working off a ladder.

Location and Travel Requirements:

- Location: Cayuga Medical Center- 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY, 14850

- Shift: Five 8-hour shifts per week 3pm - 11pm

- Travel: 25% local travel to assist other Centralus Locations as needed

Pay Range Disclosure:

Standard rate of $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
