Position description

Instructors must be available to teach in person on the UCLA Westwood campus.

UCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.

Course / Program Description

UCLA Extension is seeking dynamic, experienced cybersecurity professionals to join our instructional team for the Cybersecurity Certificate Program. This program prepares adult learners for real‑world roles in security operations, network defense, cloud security, and threat analysis. We are looking for instructors who bring strong industry experience, hands‑on skills, and a passion for teaching.

This recruitment is for instructors who can teach any of the four core courses in the Cybersecurity Certificate.

- Fundamentals of Cybersecurity

- Information Systems Infrastructure Security Management

- Network, Operating System and Database Security

- Cybersecurity Lab (Defensive Tools)

or

- Cybersecurity Lab (Offensive Tools)

Job Description

Cybersecurity instructors at UCLA Extension are working professionals who translate real‑world experience into practical, applied learning. Instructors teach one or more courses, develop engaging hands‑on activities, support diverse learners, and maintain high academic and professional standards.

Instructors must be able to teach in person on the UCLA Westwood campus.

Instructor Duties:

Teach one or more courses within the Cybersecurity Certificate.

Deliver instruction through lectures, demonstrations, labs, and applied exercises.

Create or update course materials to reflect current tools, threats, and industry practices.

Provide timely grading, feedback, and student support.

Maintain an inclusive, supportive learning environment for adult learners.

Use UCLA Extension’s learning management system (Canvas) for course administration.

Collaborate with program staff on curriculum updates and instructional quality.

Participate in instructor onboarding and periodic faculty meetings.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. 5+ years of professional cybersecurity experience, such as:

- SOC Analyst

- Security Engineer

- Penetration Tester / Ethical Hacker

- Cloud Security Specialist

- Network Security Administrator

- Cybersecurity Consultant

Strong hands‑on experience with security tools, frameworks, and methodologies (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, NIST CSF, OWASP, MITRE ATT&CK)

Availability to teach in person on the UCLA Westwood campus.
