Purpose of the Role
The Shop Manager directly manages the fabrication and machining shop. This position is responsible for implementing safety programs, training, material ordering, personnel evaluations, and mentoring shop team. The Shop Manager will fulfill the coordination, planning, and scheduling for the Engineering fabrication facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure technical excellence by leading the development of personnel training.
- Completes projects by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
- Ensure all deliverables meet or exceed customers’ schedule and quality expectations
- Responsible for the maintenance of the fabrication/machining shop equipment.
- Ensures that Risk Management safety programs, concerns, or issues are incorporated into the operation of the shop.
- Manages the process and resources required to meet project demands.
- Ensures that projects are kept on time and within budget.
- Investigates new technology.
- Engineering economics and capital equipment justification as required.
- Participate in the Group’s project review process.
- Review/approves employee vacation requests.
- Ensures that Group employees follow JELD-WEN policy and procedure.
- Manage fabrication and machining resources and allocate to projects.
- Ensure that we maintain the proper communication between Engineers, Designers and Purchasing.
- Review the Project and Work Order Reports with Directors and Vice President of Engineering.
- Review the project estimates.
- Overtime approval for the shop personnel.
- Review the shop schedule to ensure on time completion dates
- Participate in Engineering Reliability meetings.
- Manage the shop 5S program.
- Set up and oversee training programs for the shop personnel.
- Evaluations of shop personnel.
- Oversee the company first aid and CPR requirements.
- Greet and layout crew before shift.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required/bachelor’s degree is preferred
- Minimum of 10 years related work experience
- Management Experience
- Fluent in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Ability to present technical information to Engineering employees and Leadership team
- Red line drawing feedback from the shop to the engineers
- Completing projects and work orders on time and within budget
