Role Description:
At CoStar Group, we invest in early-career talent by providing hands-on learning opportunities, meaningful responsibilities, and clear pathways for professional growth. You'll be empowered to contribute ideas, solve complex challenges, and develop both the technical and collaborative skills needed to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment. As a Fortune 500 company with a track record of growth and stability, CoStar Group offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, performance-based career advancement, and the opportunity to help shape products that serve millions of users.
Our Manufacturing Engineering Operations team builds and supports the automation, test, and assembly processes behind Matterport's devices and product lines. Over an eight-week, in-person internship, you will own a single project from start to finish and present your results to the team at the end. The project will center on automation, test fixture design, or performance analysis for our hardware development, and will draw on both your mechanical engineering skills and your software and electrical instincts. That mechatronics blend is why this role matters: you should be comfortable working around a PCB, assembling electromechanical devices, sensors, and pulling data off hardware to analyze it.
The work will be scoped to your level but genuinely challenging. You will have a team of experienced engineers to guide you through our processes and procedures, dedicated mentors on your project, and an open, cross-functional culture where you can ask questions of anyone, from fellow interns to Sr. Staff engineers.
This position is located in Sunnyvale, CA .
What You’ll do:
- Own one hardware project end to end, from concept through build and validation, and present it at the close of the internship.
- Design and assemble electromechanical hardware, working across all hardware sub-systems.
- Extract performance data from hardware systems and process it into useful, actionable results.
- Apply both mechanical and software/electrical engineering skills to solve real manufacturing or design problems.
- Work cross-functionally with experienced engineers and mentors, learning our processes, procedures, and product lines along the way.
We're looking for curious, adaptable students who are eager to learn, embrace new technologies, and apply strong software engineering fundamentals to solve meaningful business challenges. This role provides the building blocks for a strong and rewarding technical career, offering mentorship, real-world experience, and continuous opportunities for professional growth.
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited, not-for-profit university or college in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable major.
- Must have an expected graduation date of December 2026 - June 2027.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- At least 2 months of previous relevant internship or co-op experience.
- Proficiency with a CAD package (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Hands-on aptitude: comfortable prototyping, wiring, assembling, and troubleshooting hardware.
- Comfort extracting and analyzing data with Python, MATLAB, or Excel, plus clear written and verbal communication.
- Ability to discuss prior internship, project, or academic work, including the problem solved, technical approach, collaboration, and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications and Experiences:
- Working knowledge of mechatronics fundamentals: sensors, actuators, motor control, and basic electronics.
- Experience with microcontrollers or embedded platforms (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar).
- Exposure to a manufacturing, production, or lab environment.
- Coursework or projects in mechanical design, robotics, automation, sensors, or precision motion systems.
- Interest in learning new technologies and building high-quality hardware.
- Demonstrated initiative and collaboration through academic, internship, extracurricular, or team-based experiences.
- Familiarity with Agile development practices.
- Exposure to AI, frameworks, or other technical tools through coursework, projects, internships, or personal learning.
